Online Survey Starting
Next Week

The Santa Clara County Library District wants to hear your ideas about what Library services are most important now and in the future.

Next week on Monday, April 18, we are launching an online survey to find out what matters to you and your family. We will share with you the link on Facebook and our website once the survey goes live. It should take 5-10 minutes to complete. The survey window ends on Sunday, May 1.

Your voice helps us do our best to meet the changing needs of our community.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey!

KIDS AND FAMILIES

Learn to Code Through the Power of Play
We are excited to announce a new eResource for kids.

CodeCombat is a fantasy game that teaches coding skills. This game-based computer science program teaches typed Python and JavaScript, and lets students see their characters react in real time to their code.

Choose your hero, collect gems, and complete each challenge as you make your way through this game that teaches different coding languages!

This new resource is best suited for kids ages 9+. Try it out now!
Easter Crafts
Easter is on Sunday, April 17.

Try out the library’s free online resource for crafting, food ideas and instructions with CreativeBug. You can stream thousands of online art and craft classes for all ages and skill levels. Then, check out our hundreds of books about Easter here.

Our libraries will be closed and in person services unavailable on Easter. Our online library is available 24/7/365. We will see you back on Monday, April 18.

TEENS AND ADULTS

Celebrate Earth Day
Earth Day is on Friday, April 22.

This annual observation honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the Earth’s environment and the issues that threaten it.

This year’s theme is, “Invest in our Planet.” It calls for everyone to act boldly, innovate broadly and implement equitably a partnership for the planet where businesses, governments and citizens can all work together.

Explore these Earth Day picture books for kids and find ways to take care of the Earth. We also offer free access to the National Geographic Virtual Library, where you can discover the wonders of the world.
Library Service Updates
We want to let patrons know about several changes starting Monday, April 11.

We are resuming some in-person programming starting on April 11. Prioritizing the safety of both staff and patrons, space may be limited for in-person programs and in some cases, registration will be required. We will continue to host virtual events as well. Find our calendar here.

Also on April 11, patrons can start reserving our community rooms for open, educational, cultural, intellectual, civic or charitable activities that are offered as free to the public. The community rooms can hold anywhere from 10 to 100 people. Learn more about booking a meeting room here.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Financial Planning Series
As we highlighted in our March 28 newsletter, April is Financial Literacy Month.

Now is a great time to take stock of your personal finances, whether you are working toward retirement, would like to dabble in the stock market or want to learn about Medicare.

We are teaming up with the Financial Planners Association of Silicon Valley to offer programs for adults. Learn more in this blog.

In partnership with KeyPoint Credit Union, we are hosting Financial Literacy programs for teens, including basic money management and how credit works. Learn more and register here.
Conversation Clubs
We offer both in-person and virtual ESL conversation clubs for people who want to practice their conversational skills and make new friends.

These meetups happen in-person on Tuesdays at the Cupertino and Campbell libraries, and online on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Find the right fit for your schedule. (The Campbell ESL meetings are held in room M-50 at the Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave, Campbell, CA)

New Santa Clara County Resource: MedAssist
People with chronic diseases face rising costs for prescriptions, which can make it difficult to stay on their medications. Not staying on medications can have dangerous and sometimes deadly consequences.

The County of Santa Clara’s MedAssist program helps offset high out-of-pocket prescription costs, making medications like insulin, inhalers, and EPI pens more affordable.

MedAssist is available to Santa Clara County residents who use retail pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens, including individuals and families with median incomes. Learn more and apply here.

Taxes Due Next Week
Taxes are due in one week.

If you haven’t prepared them yet, this year isn’t the same as usual. Many parents received the Child Tax Credit payments. Some people are also eligible for the Recovery Rebate Tax Credit if they did not receive a stimulus payment, or received a partial payment.

This year’s tax deadline is Monday, April 18 because this year's Emancipation Day in Washington D.C. falls on Friday, April 15.
