Presidents' Day is February 21 Originally created in the 1880s to celebrate George Washington's birthday, the Presidents’ Day holiday was later expanded. The third Monday of February now honors the lives of all U.S. presidents, especially Washington and Abraham Lincoln, who were both born in February (Lincoln on Feb. 12 and Washington on Feb. 22). Because it is a federal holiday, most government agencies (including the Santa Clara County Library District) will be closed on Monday, as are most banks and schools. We will reopen on Tuesday, February 22.
