For those whose kids are back to school with distance learning, we have a wide variety of student resources including online homework help. For anyone thinking of taking a road trip, we have a new booklist from our Travel & Outdoors group with suggested local and national routes to take, including the back roads. For those looking for a journey of the mind, we have eBook collections of Newbery and Caldecott Medal winners for the kids, Out of This World reads for teens, and for adults, Let's Get Literary with a selection of great new fiction.

Free Tools for Schoolwork Success Scholastic Go! is a great online resource that offers comprehensive nonfiction content for kids in 3rd grade and up. It includes four encyclopedia databases: Amazing Animals, America the Beautiful, Lands and Peoples, and The New Book of Popular Science. Find daily news and current events, interactive maps, dictionaries and videos.

Early Learning Opportunities Programs such as preschool, transitional kindergarten or kindergarten help prepare younger children for school by helping to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and language skills. Learn more here. Parents and caregivers can also find additional resources on our website. This includes access to ReadyRosie, a resource for parents on how to develop early literacy skills for their little ones.

Election Information Help Are you a first-time voter? Do you need help learning how to register or finding out what issues are on this year's ballot? SCCLD has a number of resources to help you get started. Remember, Election Day is on November 3. The last day to register to vote is October 19. Mail in ballots should be sent in as soon as possible and all postage is pre-paid.

The History of Women's Suffrage Tomorrow marks 100 years since the 19th Amendment was ratified, extending the right to vote to women in the United States. Join us on Saturday, August 22 at 3 p.m. as Bonnie J. Morris, Ph.D., a lecturer at UC Berkeley, offers a lively history of the arguments for and against women’s suffrage. She will discuss the 19th Century attitudes toward women in politics and public life that suffragettes faced.

Thank You Lani Yoshimura! Join us in congratulating Lani Yoshimura, Gilroy Community Librarian on her retirement. Lani has been with the Library District for 46 memorable years, becoming the Community Librarian in 1984. During that time, Lani has built an incredible legacy, including being a key member of the team to design and build the current Gilroy Library that will serve many future generations. We wish Lani the very best in her retirement! We are pleased to introduce Cassandra Wong, formerly the Supervising Librarian for Adult and Teens at the Campbell Library, who is the new Community Librarian for Gilroy Library. Welcome Cassandra!

Join the Library with an Instant Free eCard If you live in Santa Clara County and do not have a library card with the Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD), or would like additional household members to have their own library accounts, the instant free eCard is for you. On a temporary basis during the COVID-19 crisis, eCards are available to all residents who live within Santa Clara County with a valid residential mailing address (P.O. Box not accepted).
