Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the Library National Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15. It is a month-long celebration to celebrate and honor the culture, achievements and contributions of Hispanics and Latinos in the United States. People of Hispanic and Latinx heritage encompass many different countries and cultures. We hope to share some of these cultures with you through Spanish and English bilingual booklists and many different events for all ages, starting September 7. Free Homework Help at the Library Could your teen use some help with math or English language arts homework? SCCLD is offering free, on-demand afterschool tutoring and homework help to students living in the Santa Clara County Library District.
We have partnered with the Bay Area Tutoring Association (BATA) to offer Homework Help through tutoring pods in the following libraries: Monday, Sep 20 through Dec 17

Upcoming Holiday Hours We want to let you know that our libraries will be closed and services unavailable on Monday, September 6 in observance of Labor Day. Bookdrops will be available for returns. Our Online Library is available whenever you need it. Libraries will reopen and services will resume on Tuesday, September 7.

Find Mindfulness with Headspace We invite patrons to try the free meditation app, Headspace. Here you will find hundreds of guided meditations on a variety of topics, from stress and sleep to focus and performance. Patrons can sign up anytime during the month (space permitting) for free enrollment through SCCLD. The borrowing period expires on the last day of every month. You can re-enroll again starting the first of the month. All of your personal progress and completed sessions within Headspace will be saved in your personal Headspace account. Register for Headspace starting Wednesday, Sept. 1, and enjoy a full month of relaxation and mindfulness.

You Could Be the Next County Poet Laureate Apply now for the position of 2022-2023 Santa Clara County Poet Laureate. It is an honorary post whose responsibilities are to elevate the awareness of Santa Clara County residents around poetry and help celebrate the literary arts. Eligibility Criteria: - Must be available to serve a two-year term from January 2022 through December 2023
- Must be a current Santa Clara County resident who has resided in the County for the past three years and has been published or recognized for poetry and literary contributions
- The individual’s poetic interests respond to, or represent, the diversity of arts and cultures in Santa Clara County
- The individual has demonstrated a commitment to and passion for poetry and embraces the opportunity to engage in civic discourse

Disaster Preparedness September is National Preparedness Month, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. Now is an important time to think about preparedness, as extreme weather conditions could trigger a PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff. Learn more here. Make sure to sign up for AlertSCC, Santa Clara County’s official emergency alert and warning system. Notifications may include fire, earthquake, severe weather, and crime. You can also find instructions on what to do during an emergency.

SCCLD Bookmobile Librarian Receives Recognition Amytha has spent 16 years working for SCCLD, all for the Bookmobile program. Today, SCCLD has two vehicles that cover over 1,000 square miles and make over 100 stops a month at senior centers, schools, rural areas, and unincorporated portions of the County that are far from any library. Congratulations, Amytha and thank you for your dedication to your patrons, community partners and colleagues!

Join the Library with an Instant Free eCard If you live in Santa Clara County and do not have a library card with the Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD), or would like additional household members to have their own library accounts, the instant free eCard is for you. eCards are available to all residents who live within Santa Clara County Library District with a valid residential mailing address (P.O. Box not accepted). If you are interested in a full-use card to check out physical materials, all of our libraries are open Monday through Saturday. Visit us at any of our locations and we would be happy to issue you a full use card or convert your eCard to a full-use card. |
