Celebrating Indigenous Peoples of Past & Present
November is National Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of those who are the original inhabitants, explorers and settlers of the area we now call the United States.

President George H.W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating the month-long celebration in 1990. It has been observed ever year since 1994.

Explore this blog which includes activities and resources to observe Native American Heritage Month. It also includes booklists for adults, teens and children.

National Novel Writing Month
Do you have stories you want to share, but don’t know how to put them on paper?

Every November, NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) encourages people to write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days. Need help getting started? Our librarians have pooled together these resources to help new writers.

Los Altos Library is hosting Winter Writer’s Night on Tuesday, November 15 at 7 p.m. We will be offering a casual space for teens and adults to work on writing projects. It’s a relatively quiet space to write, though there may be musical ambience and writing prompts. There will not be any formal writing instruction or feedback.
