October is National Work and Family Month

For a year and a half now, many of us have had to balance work and home life in a way we had not before, because of COVID-19. While this has caused inconveniences, there have also been many joys.

Nearly 20 years ago, the 108th Congress passed a resolution declaring October as National Work and Family Month. It was aimed at trying to find balance between earning a living and making things work at home. Especially today, people of all ages are trying to perfect this balance.

Here at the Library, we have a number of resources to help bring your family together, including movies on Kanopy, or DVD/Blu-Ray, travel guides for adventures around the world or in the Bay Area, and of course, great books for all ages.

Celebrate Inktober This Month
Get your pens and get creative during Inktober!

This month-long (or year-long) challenge was created in 2009 by artist Jake Parker as a way to "improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits." It has since grown into a worldwide event!

If you need help learning how to draw, stop by the library and pick up one of these available books.
Fire Prevention Week
This week we recognize Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety,” which aims to educate people on the different sounds smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make.

For example, a chirping sound means the battery or the entire alarm must be replaced, whereas hearing a beep means to get on your feet and get out!

Find ways to teach little ones fire safety here.
