Introducing New SCCLD Library Cards! We are excited to announce the release of new, unique library card designs on Monday, January 3. The three fun designs aim to inspire patrons to Create, Dream, and Discover unlimited possibilities, all of which can happen with a free SCCLD library card. These one-of-a-kind library card designs include a lightbulb, cloud and magnifying glass on the front where patrons can draw or write to personalize their card. Everyone is invited to get a free library card. Current patrons are also welcome to replace their card with one of the new designs. Note: If you already have an SCCLD library card, you will have to get a new account number and PIN. As an added bonus, people who come into the library and get a new card will receive a special gift, while supplies last.

Top Booklists of the Year Every December, our librarians compile the best books of the year. They go through at least 20 sources, from trade publications, to bestseller lists to popular blogs and websites. Then, they are put in order to find the most agreed upon titles. Without further ado, the top fiction of 2021 was No One is Talking About This by Patricia Lockwood. The top nonfiction books of the year was a tie between Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner and Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe. Find the full list here, and happy reading! Our Music and Movies Team also released its Best of 2021 recommendations. Check it out here.

Ancestry Library Changes Our free online resource, Ancestry Library Edition, offers a number of records and databases that can help you discover more about your family history. This includes access to the U.S. Census, military records, vital and church records, directories and more. For the last two years, Ancestry has provided at-home access to library patrons, including SCCLD. However, starting on Thursday, December 30, Ancestry service will only be available in libraries. When visiting the library, Ancestry can be accessed from a personal laptop that is connected to the library’s WiFi network, or from one of the library computers.
