All SCCLD libraries will be closed and services unavailable on Thursday & Friday, November 23 & 24 for Thanksgiving.
Opt Outside with Help From the Library!

The concept of “Opt Outside” began in 2015 by a major outdoor recreation retailer, with the intention that its employees and customers would spend the Thanksgiving weekend outside in nature rather than shopping.

It has grown into a larger movement with many organizations taking part, including the National Park Service. Right now is a good time to get outdoors to enjoy the changing leaves and crisp, cool weather. Check out one of Santa Clara County’s 28 regional parks. Keep in mind, our Gilroy and Morgan Hill Libraries carry Nature Daypacks, essential outdoor gear to help you explore the great outdoors! These daypacks also come with a parking voucher that can be used at county parks. Please visit the circulation desks for these items. The Campbell Express and Milpitas Libraries also lend out county park passes.

Your SCCLD library card can also let you check out a California State Park Pass providing free parking to visit more than 200 participating state parks!

Before you head out on your next outdoor adventure, make sure to stop by the library and pick up a travel guide.

Cooking and Fire Safety Tips
The holidays are here, which means there are a lot of family gatherings and food. This is an important time to talk to children about fire safety. The Office of Emergency Management has shared these tips:

-Take the mystery out of fire play by teaching children fire is a tool, not a toy
- Store matches and lighters out of children’s reach and sight, preferably in a locked cabinet
-Never leave children unattended near operating stoves or short candles

Find additional safety tips: bit.ly/sccfiresafety

Feel free to share this CalFire coloring sheet with young ones. Color yourself a safer Thanksgiving with a “Cornucopia of Indoor Fire Safety,” which includes a fire extinguisher, flameless (LED) candles, a cooking pan with a lid, a timer for cooking, heat-resistant gloves, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
