Thank You to Our Patrons

This is the time of year when many people reflect and give thanks. As a Library District, we are thankful for your continued support, patience, and patronage over the last two years. These difficult times have tested many of us, and we hope that the library has made this journey a little easier.

Earlier this summer, we asked you to tell us how we could serve you better. We are thankful for your responses and are adapting to best meet your needs now and in the future. We went fine free in January, removing barriers that may have prevented people from using the library. We expanded hours to include evenings, accommodating busy adults, families and students.

We opened our libraries for full access to allow for in-person events, as well as a welcoming space for people to relax, work or study. We have added additional online resources and services for entertainment and educational needs and continue to offer in-person and virtual programming.

This week, our libraries will be closed and services unavailable on Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Our Online Library is available for any last-minute needs, whether you want some music to play, movies to watch, or a quick recipe or craft to create.

Wishing you and yours a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

KIDS AND FAMILIES

Hanukkah Begins Next Week
The Jewish festival of Hanukkah (Chanukah) begins next week.

Tradition is to give gifts on each night, with the best one saved for last! Other traditions include the lighting of the menorah, enjoying foods, and making charitable donations.

We have many picture books about Hanukkah in the Library for the little ones. Find digital cookbooks on Overdrive to help make delicious and memorable meals together.
Thanksgiving Break Entertainment
A lot of students are off this week for Thanksgiving break. The library offers a number of ways to keep kids entertained, including free and unlimited engaging videos.

Check out Kanopy Kids for kids’ movies and TV shows, animated storybooks, and classic fairy tales. OverDrive Kids has cartoons, movies, and animated books. Scholastic offers Bookflix, which are video storybooks paired with nonfiction eBooks. Find our entire collection here.

TEENS AND ADULTS

Test Your Holiday Knowledge
We invite adults to our Virtual Trivia Night on Wednesday, December 1 at 6 p.m.

This event will be hosted by our Movies & Music Team, so brush up on your knowledge of everything holiday movie and music related and prepare to have fun! We will be using Mentimeter to submit answers, so please be sure you have access to an internet browser during the program. Register here.

Keep an eye for the team’s holiday picks on December 1.
Consumer Guides Available
Between Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, a lot of people will be shopping for the best gifts for the holidays.

Before you make any large purchases, make sure to check out the latest issue of Consumer Reports for product reviews and ratings. We also carry current issues of Consumer Reports Buying Guide and AARP: The Magazine. Find these publications using our free eResource, Flipster.

Also check out the Bay Area Consumers' Checkbook for additional help.

Changes Coming to
OverDrive Apps
There are changes coming to our free eBook and Audiobook resource, Overdrive, and its apps.

On February 1, 2022, the Overdrive app will be removed from all app stores. The app will continue to be functional until December 2022, when it will be retired.

We encourage patrons to download the Libby app if you haven’t already done so. This app will continue to be supported and updated in the future. It is available for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play.
