Keeping Your Home Safe Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless and poisonous gas. It is undetectable to the human senses and you may not know that you are being exposed. Accidental CO poisoning is associated with faulty or improperly used appliances such as generators, furnaces, stoves, water heaters and fireplaces. The initial symptoms of low to moderate carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning are similar to the flu but without the fever. The most common symptoms are headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea and dizziness. For more cold weather safety tips, visit PrepareSCC.org/ColdWeather.
