We are just days away from celebrating Christmas, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, and New Year’s. The Library is here to provide you with any last minute help you might need.
 
No time to run to the store to buy a present, or is the item now unavailable? Give the gift of a delicious homemade food or treat this holiday season. Check out these cookbooks for inspiration.
 
Do you want to get people dancing and singing along to holiday hits? Enjoy several different playlists using our free music streaming/downloading service, Freegal. Or, if you’d rather relax and watch a movie, our video service Kanopy has a holiday collection for you to check out. The Library’s Movies and Music Team always has great recommendations to enjoy.

Learn About Different Holidays
There are many different holidays happening in December, from Christmas to Hanukkah to Kwanzaa. Learn all about them with the Holly Jolly eBooklist available on Overdrive. Here you will find children’s titles that will get them into the festive spirit.
 
Also, explore our free online resource, CultureGrams, to learn about different cultures and countries around the world. This resource includes maps, history, infographics, and pictures. 
Digital Magazines for Kids 
Winter Break is a great time students to explore, read and relax. Our Online Library offers a number of free eResources for kids to keep them busy. Check out our digital newsstands for current eMagazines popular with young readers.
 
Overdrive offers an extensive educational eMagazine collection covering all interests and age ranges, from National Geographic to Highlights and Minecraft World. 
 
Explore Flipster to get instant access to other beloved publications including Zoobooks, Ranger Rick, and Sports Illustrated Kids.  

TEENS AND ADULTS

Teen Photo Contest Continues
Teens, there is still time to participate in our Winter Traditions Photo Contest and Gallery.

Share photographs of what winter traditions look like to you for a chance to win a prize. Teens 12-18 are encouraged to enter. Up to three photos can be submitted. We request the photo NOT include people’s faces.

Winter Solstice on December 21
The official start to winter is on Tuesday, December 21, and with it comes cold and sometimes rainy weather.  
 
That’s a great reason to stay cozy inside and curl up with a good book! Celebrate winter with these non-fiction travel writing books about amazing ice and snow adventures.

All SCCLD libraries will be closed and services unavailable on Friday and Saturday, December 24 and 25, for Christmas, and again on Friday and Saturday, December 31 and January 1, for New Year’s.
