Memorial Day is Next Week Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May to honor the brave men and women of the Armed Forces who gave their lives protecting our country. This tradition dates back to the Civil War to honor those who fought then, but during World War I, it was expanded to include all U.S. conflicts. It is now a federal holiday with many government businesses and schools closed. Our libraries will be closed and services unavailable on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day. Our Online Library 24/7 is always available to patrons. Memorial Day typically marks the start of summer in the United States, with people spending more time outside, whether barbecuing, gardening or vacationing. Find travel books at the library, as well as cookbooks centered around vegetables.
