Celebrating Hispanic and Latino Contributions and Cultures

Tomorrow marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and honor the culture, achievements and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans of past and present in the United States.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as of last year, Hispanic and Latinx Americans make up nearly a fifth of the U.S. population and 25% of Santa Clara County’s population.

We are celebrating the month with events for people of all ages. Moya Art is presenting a Hispanic Heritage Virtual Paint Party on Wednesday, September 16. Join us on Saturday, September 19 at 11 a.m. for a virtual concert with children’s songwriter Nathalia, who will have you dancing, singing and learning some Spanish! Of course, our Family Storytimes on Thursdays at 11 a.m. are presented in English and Spanish. Our School Age Storytime on Monday, September 28 will be also presented in Spanish.

We have a special virtual author visit planned for Saturday, October 3. Hear from author and educator Francisco Jiménez about his personal experiences growing up in a family of migrant workers and how it shaped his writing.

Don't forget to check out some picture books and ebooks celebrating Hispanic and Latino culture!
