The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Civil Rights leader used nonviolent and peaceful demonstrations to advocate for equal rights for African Americans. Such efforts, including the Montgomery Bus protests, staged after the arrest of Rosa Parks, helped change laws that banned racial segregation on public transportation. Dr. King also helped organize the March on Washington and worked to help pass the Civil Rights Bill. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. We also have nonfiction graphic novels about Dr. King for kids and teens. Find films and documentaries about him with the free video streaming service, Kanopy. Libraries will reopen and services will resume on Tuesday, January 18.
