Summer Starts This Week

Summer officially begins on Wednesday, June 21. The days are longer, the weather is warmer and there are plenty of reasons to enjoy the outdoors. In fact, June is Great Outdoors Month.

Summer is a great time to camp. Plan your best camping trip ever with one of these books. Or if you are looking for a fun daytrip, take a look at these California Hiking Guides.

Your library card can also let you check out a California State Park Pass to visit more than 200 participating state parks for free! Learn more here.

Keep in mind, our Gilroy and Morgan Hill Libraries carry Nature Daypacks, essential outdoor gear to help you explore the great outdoors! These daypacks also come with a parking voucher that can be used at county parks. Please visit the circulation desks for these items. The Campbell Express and Milpitas Libraries also lend out county park passes.

Use our free eResource OverDrive to access Audiobooks for children, teens, and adults.

Our libraries also carry Audiobook CDs and Playaway devices. Check them out today!

TEENS AND ADULTS

Teen Summer Reads Recommendations
Our Summer Reading Program, Find Your Voice, is about sharing stories, expressing ourselves and sparking change not only by speaking, but also by writing, creating art, movement and the actions we take every day.

Find your voice with one of our teen booklists this summer:
Teens’ Top Ten are the top books as voted on by you!
Read beyond this world with Teen Science Fiction
Poppin’ Reads for Teens are books about music and musicians

OverDrive Update
We have some great news for patrons who use OverDrive to access eBooks and Audiobooks.

OverDrive’s app Libby is now available to download from the Amazon Appstore. Going forward, users with Amazon Fire tablets can now download Libby directly from the app store instead of sideloading the app.

The OverDrive app has been removed from the Amazon Appstore. However, Fire tablet users who already have it can continue to use it, but it is no longer being updated. OverDrive app users will be encouraged to upgrade to Libby.

Submission Deadline Extended!
SCCLD is extending the deadline for local musicians to sign up for our Battle of the Bands competition. The deadline is now Friday, June 30!

We have two divisions competing: Teens ages 13-18 years old and adults 18+.

Get your group together and submit an application online. Please make sure to include a YouTube link to one song performed by your band. After the June 30 deadline, people can vote online for their favorite band.

The three bands in each division receiving the most votes will compete for prizes at the live concert at Milpitas Library on Saturday, July 22. Each finalist will perform a 20-minute set in front of a live audience and judging panel. The grand prize is $500!
