Take a Virtual Tour of Our Libraries

POP QUIZ: Do you know which SCCLD libraries are located next to orchards? Or, which library has a historical site incorporated into its layout? Could you guess which library is the largest, or the newest?

We invite you to take virtual tours of our libraries! Here you will learn the history and discover unique facts about our libraries, and the Bookmobile in short 2-3 minute videos. You’ll also meet our Community Librarians and staff who strive to offer you and your family the best service.

Perhaps you’ve never had a chance to explore your local library’s resources and services. Most likely, you’ll learn something new and have another reason to stop by for a visit!

We hope this encourages you to check out all of our libraries in person. Find out which library has a 16-foot salt-water aquarium, and which one has a historic book character mural.

Discovery starts here!

KIDS AND FAMILIES

Virtual Paint Night
Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night is one of the most recognizable paintings in the world.

Recreate your own version with us on Tuesday, December 7 at 6 p.m. Local artist Sheryl Cathers will lead a virtual, family friendly Paint Along. Register here.

Sheryl will be using acrylic paints, but use whatever you have on hand, like watercolors or pastels. You’ll also need brushes, canvas, paper towels and a cup of water.
Keep Your Eyes to the Skies
This Week
A partial lunar eclipse is taking place late Thursday night into early Friday morning. A partial lunar eclipse is when the moon slips into Earth’s shadow for a few hours. This spectacular sight will be visible for people in the Bay Area between 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Young astronomers can explore eBooks that are out of this world, or our science-based online resources, such as Britannica School, National Geographic Kids, or ScienceFlix.

Use Overdrive to find digital magazines like Astronomy, Popular Science and New Scientist.

TEENS AND ADULTS

Read it, Then Watch it
Our librarians have created a new booklist for teens: Books to Screen.

Find books that have recently been (or will soon be) adapted into TV shows and movies. This list features favorites like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Kissing Booth.

It's fun finding all of the changes made from the book to the TV or movie adaptation.
Teen Photo Contest:
Winter Traditions
We invite patrons aged 12-18 to participate in our Winter Traditions Photo Contest and Gallery.

Share photographs of what winter traditions look like to you for a chance to win a prize. Perhaps it is an end of year celebration, taking a trip, making a cup of tea – let us know!*

Enter your submission here. The deadline is Friday, December 31, 2021.

*We request the photo NOT include people’s faces.

Movember is About Men's Health
Each year, public health advocates try to draw attention to the many health issues that are of particular concern for men. One of the ways to raise awareness is the fun and visual practice of growing out facial hair.

This Movember, find out how to keep a loved one in your life healthy and happy with recommended screenings and lifestyle choices. The Mayo Clinic offers some helpful suggestions around when to schedule screenings and what signs to look out for.

The Library has many free resources that give great advice around men's health, including Health Library by StayWell and MedLine Plus.*
