Holiday Planning Made Easy! Hanukkah, Christmas, Boxing Day and Kwanzaa are just weeks away. The library is a one-stop shop with a number of resources to help you plan a memorable event with friends and family. Our libraries are hosting different craft events throughout the month, where you can create holiday cards, toys for pets or decorations for your home. If you can’t make it to one of our events, check out this booklist about crafts you can do at home. Our free online resource, CreativeBug, offers thousands of videos for crafts and handmade gifts, including puzzle balls, socks, beeswax candles and more. Make a mouthwatering meal with this compilation of cookbooks. If you are having a large get-together, take a look at these books about entertaining. Homework Help Available Students may have some big assignments due and/or finals this month, and may need help with writing or learning new materials. Try our free eResource, Brainfuse HelpNow. Get homework help on any subject with an online tutor from 1 – 10 p.m. any day of the week. Tutors are also available in Spanish. Additional services include study resources and test prep, create and share flashcards, and virtual study rooms. Our Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Milpitas, Morgan Hill and Saratoga Libraries offer free, in-person, after-school tutoring for students in grades K-9 four days a week. See the full schedule here.

Enjoy Audiobooks Anywhere! Audiobooks are quite convenient for readers who want to multi-task while enjoying a good book. SCCLD’s Audiobook collection provides a wealth of titles and in different formats. Visit our libraries to check out Audiobook CDs or Playaways, which are preloaded Audiobooks.
Patrons can also download Audiobooks onto their devices such as smartphones, tablets or computers. Access Audiobooks through OverDrive’s Libby app or SimplyE. Books in other languages are also available.

Test Your Holiday Trivia Knowledge We invite adults to join us for our Virtual Trivia Night on Monday, December 12 at 6 p.m. Presented by our Movies & Music Team, this trivia will test your skills about everything related to holiday movies and music. This is an individual trivia contest, so no teams are necessary to participate. We will be using Mentimeter to submit answers, so you will need access to an internet browser during the event. Special Event: Author Visit Los Altos Library is hosting a special author event on Saturday, December 10 at 5 p.m. Join us for a discussion with bestselling author and video essayist Lindsay Ellis. She has written books such as Axiom’s End and Truth of the Divine. Find her books here. Her online content covers media, narrative and film theory. A Q&A will follow the discussion.

Find Mindfulness During Stressful Times Take a few minutes for yourself with our free mindfulness app, Headspace. It’s an app for busy, modern lives to learn the essentials of meditation and mindfulness in just minute a day. Find hundreds of guided meditations on a variety of topics, from stress and sleep to focus and performance. All Headspaces accounts are open for free enrollment through SCCLD at the start of the month. The borrowing period ends on the last weekday of the month at 8 p.m. PST. Patrons are welcome to re-enroll the next day. All personal progress and completed sessions will be saved to your account. Try it now! Upcoming Holiday Schedule We want to let you know about our upcoming holiday schedule, in case you need to stock up on library materials ahead of the holidays! Our libraries will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 24 for Christmas Eve and Saturday, December 31 for New Year’s Eve. Our libraries will be closed on Sunday and Monday, December 25 and 26 for Christmas, and again on January 1 and 2 for New Year’s Day. Our Online Library is always available for eBooks, Audiobooks, movies, music and digital resources. Happy Holidays!
