Used Book Sale Our next weekend used book sale is scheduled for Saturday, February 26 (10 am - 6 pm) and Sunday, February 27 (1 pm - 6 pm) in our Upper Level Conference Room. Most hardbacks are $2 and most paperbacks and DVDs are $1 (plus tax). All proceeds support library programs and services.

Intro to African American GenealogyThis lecture - "I Joined, I Prayed, I Received, and I Died" - will discuss the many records that one can find in the churches and cemeteries. Afterwards, you will have a better appreciation of the records that your ancestors left behind in their house of worship.

Winter Read Aloud Challenge Open to families of all ages and sizes as long as you're reading aloud. Teenagers at home? Pick a book and read aloud together for at least 15 minutes each evening. Live alone? Audiobooks count as someone reading aloud to you! Help us reach our community reading goal of 1,000 hours! The MRSPL Foundation will match $1 per hour read in donations to Homestretch!

German Scots-Irish in VirginiaDuring the 18th century, thousands of German and Scots-Irish families travelled south through the Valley of Virginia to southwest Virginia, the Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee. Daniel Thorp, associate professor of history at Virginia Tech, will talk about the pioneers who made this trek, their experience on the road, and the communities they established.
