Phew! We made it through our annual Summer Reading program.

While the August 2003 headline above expresses the same message about summer reading, the text of the article is vastly different. 20 years later, we had 688 readers participating in our summer challenge. Comparatively, our population has stayed very similar. What does this mean!? More people are supporting the library, visiting our building, and reading for pleasure than ever before!

Have you checked out our FABULOUS digital archive that's now live? It's fun to read back centuries, but even a few decades can be a treat!

Book Event: A Maine Garden Almanac by Martha Fenn King

Tuesday Aug. 15 4:30-6:00 PM

Community Room

York resident Martha Fenn King is a steadfast gardener whose stunning photos and sage advice once informed readers through her regular gardening column, “Martha's Garden.” Gathering a lifetime of gardening knowledge and lore, her book A Maine Garden Almanac presents a collection of seasonal information, heartwarming insight, poetry, and beautiful imagery. Whether you have a small or large garden, this book will support you through the tougher growing seasons in your garden and life. She will be reading passages and poems from her book and helping facilitate any conversations about flowers, vegetables and gardening. A simple demonstration of flower arranging will be part of the presentation.

The first twelve participants to sign up will actively arrange their own small canning jar bouquets that they can take home with them. The flowers will be brought from Martha's Garden for this event, while supplies last.
