Although the inter-library loan service is temporarily suspended while delivery negotiations take place, patrons are able to use their York Public Library (YPL) cards in person at participatingMinerva Network libraries. YPL Joins Read ME 2024
We’re happy to announce that the York Public Library is a Read ME 2024 participating library! This summer’s featured books are "Moon in Full: A Modern Day Coming-of-Age Story" by Marpheen Chann and "The Road to Dalton" by Shannon Bowring. Copies of both titles are available to borrow at the library and we are excited to invite you to join the first of two statewide virtual author events.

Join Read ME featured author Marpheen Chann for an online talk about their debut memoir "Moon in Full: A Modern Day Coming-of-Age Story." Chann will read passages from his book, reflect on his writing, and answer questions from participating libraries and readers across the state.
York Public Library presents "Panorama," featuring the work of Eliot artist Gordon Carlisle. The show runs July 2 through August 29, with a reception and artist talk July 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Gordon Carlisle has been actively involved as a visual artist in the greater Portsmouth area since 1982. To date, Carlisle has completed over 40 Public Art commissions across New England. With eleven solo and over fifty-five group exhibitions under his belt, this award winning artist continues to produce a wide variety of art in his studio in Eliot, Maine, including paintings in oils and acrylics on a variety of surfaces, watercolors and drawings on paper, repurposed Paint-By-Number paintings, collage and assemblage. Carlisle is currently featured in ten collections, and his work has been exhibited across the United States.
This exhibit will convey the forty plus year “panorama” of Carlisle’s visual art output, including Public Art, theatrical design, paintings, collages, and illustrations.

Bill Roorbach will talk about his new book, Beep, an ebullient, funny, and hugely original novel told from the perspective of Beep, a squirrel monkey who — with the help of a brilliant young girl — forges the way forward for a planet in crisis.
Joyce Maynard will discuss her latest book, How the Light Gets In, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to her beloved novel Count the Ways — a complex story of three generations of a family and its remarkably resilient, and indomitable matriarch Eleanor.

Author Talk with Susan Bregman

Susan's book is an unapologetic combination of historic gravity, exuberant entertainment, unexpected juxtapositions, and wonderfully kitschy roadside attractions. Susan always tailors the presentation to the community. For York she will likely include some of the places a little bit off Route 1 such as Goldenrod, Fun-O-Rama, the bowling alley at York Beach and the Nubble Lighthouse. Susan is a writer and photographer living in Boston. She loves old neon signs, candlepin bowling, lawn flamingos, and roadside attractions.

Reference and Technology Librarian, Devin Burkitt will guide you through all the options, including how to get streaming on your TV, where to find your favorite shows, and how to determine whether or not this approach is more cost effective.
Barbie is a fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig from a screenplay she wrote with Noah Baumbach. It is based on the fashion dolls by Mattel, and is the first live-action Barbie film after numerous animated films and specials. It stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, and follows them on a journey of self-discovery through both Barbieland and the real world following an existential crisis.
Joseph Gluckert, Shipyard Historian, will lead this general tour of the Shipyard which includes a visit to the Shipyard Museum. Visitors will have a chance to view the room where dignitaries from Russia, Japan, and the United States gathered to sign the Russo-Japanese Peace Treaty in 1905.
Due to security precautions, all participants will require prior clearance to visit the Shipyard, and the library must provide names and addresses for each participant one week before our visit. On the day of the visit, all participants will be required to show identification to board the shuttle. Acceptable identification includes a driver's license, state-issued ID, or passport.
Registration is required. Space is limited. Meeting details will be shared with registrants.
How to Create and Finance an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU)

Amber Harrison, YCSA's Housing Innovation Manager, will introduce the Landlord Engagement Initiative Program and serve as panel moderator. She will be joined by a representative from York's planning or code department who will present ADU standards; Fair Tide Executive Director, Emily Flinkstorm who will present Kittery's ADU grant program; and representatives from Northeast Credit Union and Kennebunk Savings Banks who will share information related to their new ADU financing products.

This is a Lunch and Learn Series provided by Serving Our Seniors
Attendees will learn investment strategies to help build a plan to last throughout one's retirement years. In addition, participants will explore how to address key concerns such as inflation, health care expenses and market volatility as well as ways to prepare in advance for things that may not go as expected. Lunch will be provided to all those who register.
Martha Fenn King returns to York Public Library after four fabulous presentations last year. This presentation will focus on how best to keep up with our gardens this Summer! Martha will be reading passages and poems from her book and will then facilitate any conversations about flowers, vegetables and gardening. Martha will also be talking about the weather this current growing season. What is bountiful and what is a complete failure in our gardens? How do we control or live with weeds?
Martha will bring a bouquet of flowers to raffle off at the end of the presentation!

Who loves Graphic Novels? Barb will lead the group with fun comic-related activities. Can you guess which graphic novels get checked out the most? Discover a graphic novel you may get hooked on this summer. Come share your favorite too! Suggested for ages 7 - 10.
IT'S TIME! The stuffie sleepover is tonight. Bring your stuffed friend to storytime today. We'll read stories and get our stuffed friends ready for their night at the library with the librarians. The librarians will take great care of your stuffie and if they have a favorite snack or bedtime routine please be sure to let us know. You can check our Facebook page to see how your stuffie is doing at the sleepover and then pick your stuffie up in the morning. Suggested for all ages with a caregiver. This is a drop-in program.

Join us for an extra special summer "S'moreytime". You'll hear some camp fire-ish stories, sing songs, and then we'll enjoy s'mores trail mix with the grahams, mini marshmallow and mini chocolate chips in the craft area! Suggested for ages 3 - 5, with a caregiver. This is a drop-in program.

Get up close to some BIG trucks and celebrate the last days of the York Public Library annual summer challenge. York Fire, Police and Public Works, will be here with some of their vehicles. The Kona Ice truck will be serving up some sweet treats and cool tunes, and Mr. Fox will be here with their truck to help compost our compostable event waste. Casella will be here with a recycling truck for you to explore too! Inside the Library the fun continues with indoor games and crafts. You challenged yourself this summer and now it is time to celebrate!
