Dear friends,

March is here, and beginning Tuesday the 2nd, we'll get to see you in REAL LIFE: we're reopening...ish. In-person services will resume to a limited number of people at one time. We can't wait to see you--or rather, the top half of your faces--browsing the stacks or using the computer again!

Before returning to the Library, please review all rules for Library usage:
  • Wear your mask correctly at all times on Library property
  • Wash/sanitize your hands upon entering the building
  • Be quick--15 minutes is still the best measure of time for limiting exposure
  • Be patient with us and your fellow community members
  • Ask if you need accommodations
  • Full details can be found on our website.

Your Library visit should be like spring in Maine: short, sweet, and fleeting. As much as we'd love to see you relax and enjoy the Library, there's still this pandemic thing going on, so it won't be just like old times.... yet.  Let's all look forward to longer days ahead.

With affection,
York Public Library

Sustained White Antiracism:
What does it mean to “do the work”?
Tuesday, March 9 @ 6:30 PM

In last month's forum we examined clear ways to engage in anti-racist education and activism. This talk explores how we stay the course in our commitment to racial justice. Educator and scholar Kate Slater will talk about how folks (especially white-identified folks) can create structures and systems of accountability to consistently deepen and broaden their anti-racist work… and more importantly, how they stay committed for the long haul.

Dr. Kate Slater is a White anti-racist educator and scholar and the creator of the Anti-Racist Roadmap. She is the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at Brandeis University’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. To learn more about Kate’s work, visit her website at kateaslater.com.

Author Event: Kathryn Olmstead
in conversation with Jenny Radsma
Wednesday March 24 @ 7:00 PM

Join us for “Writers on Wednesday” featuring  Kathryn Olmstead, most recently the author of TRUE NORTH: FINDING THE  ESSENCE OF AROOSTOOK COUNTY, a collection of essays gleaned from her years  of writing for ‘Echoes’ Magazine’ and the Bangor Daily News.

“Aroostook County is not just a place in Northern Maine,” writes Olmstead in the  author’s note. “It is symbolic of rural places throughout the nation that retain the  vanishing qualities of life many people long for in today’s world. The pace is slow,  nature is close, the beauty is breathtaking and the people are authentic.”

Kathryn Olmstead is a former Journalism faculty member with the University of Maine.  Her work can be found in local and national publications.
