Tails and Tales - Summer Library Program 2021 Wrap-up
The Tails and Tales Summer Library Program (SLP) concluded on August 14 with an ice cream party at Captain Bonney's for all children who filled a sticker log by August 9.  Teens and Adults who completed a "What's Your Four" log or 2 bingos, received a small prize bag. Thanks to the Captain Bonney's staff for providing us with such a fun location to celebrate, and for all the delicious ice cream flavors and toppings. Special thanks to to the Rochester Lions Club and the Friends of the Library for funding this event!

We have accomplished a lot since the program started on June 21.  Did you see the blank StickTogether mosaic at the library  in June?  It was just a large blank white sheet of teeny white squares. Due to the efforts of LSLP participants, all 4,000 squares were filled with color tiles and the mystery image, a chameleon, was uncovered.  Even after the image was revealed, participants continued to share their progress.  This resulted in
us "over filling" the mosaic and ending up with a total of 1,150 more tiles earned beyond space available on the mosaic. Every person who participated in the program and shared their logs with us helped achieve this impressive feat!   Thank you!

Based upon survey results, the program was a success!  Mostly everyone from all 3 programs answered YES that they would take part in next year's program, and YES that they would recommend the program to a friend.  Mostly all children's program responders answered that the program INCREASED the children's enjoyment of reading, amount of reading, and voluntary reading! Positive comments and suggestions were also received.  Thank you to everyone who took a minute to fill out a survey.  Your input is very important and helpful!

The success of our program was not only due to all the wonderful participants, but also due to our wonderful sponsors and volunteers!
  • We greatly appreciate the financial support or donations of goods from the Friends of  Plumb Library (Yoga, BackYard Band Jams, Wally Zoom Show, Captain Bonney's gift certificates, prizes and program supplies),Rochester Cultural Council (Hodge Podge),  Rochester Lions Club (Scholastic shiny new books and Captain Bonney's  party), Rochester Firefighters Association (Toe Jam Puppet Band), Rochester Women Club (prizes), Brook Realty, Friend's Marketplace (packaged treats) , Lloyd's Market (candy bags). Captain Bonney's (party venue and free toppings bar), and Rochester Land Trust (Trail Tale)
  • Several families donated supplies for our treasure chest, or donated almost new books. Thank you!
  • Thanks to our friends at Cervelli's, RMS, the Rochester Fire Department, The Rochester Police Department, First Congregational Church and Captain Bonney's for participating in our "Where's the Whale" program.
  • Thanks to Friend's Marketplace and The Rochester Senior Center for participating in our "Where's Hodge Podge" program.
  • We are so happy with our new partnership with the Rochester Land Trust, and the creation of our Trail Tale experience. Thanks to the RLT for supplying our first trail tale book,  "The Gruffalo", helping us set up the book on the trail, and for contributing to the completion prize bag. Thanks to Mattapoisett Library for sharing our second story, "Petra" and for the donation of Velcro by the RLT.  Stay tuned for more Trail Tale adventures!
  • We are especially proud of our Tweens and Teens who were tasked to create programs for younger children and did so expertly!  The Jr. Friends, Girl Scout Troop 62150, Elsie and Blanca, and Tails N Trails 4-H programs were outstanding! These young adults (and of course their troop or club leaders) are superstars!
  • And, what about the very talented Voci family?  Ms. Liz and her children shared their talents with us again and this year hosted 2 green screen photo shoots.  The resulting photos were absolutely one of a kind!  The Vocis are awesome!
  • And, of course, how fantastic that our RMS "Tuesdays with Teachers" Team shared some of their very precious summer vacation time with us?   Mrs. Alves, Mrs. Sollauer and Mrs. Johnson are talented and fun!
  • Mrs. Weigel and family transported COWS to the library for our 4:H Animal Show and Tell. She also made the adults/teen program participants soaps using farm ingredients.  (She also represents our close partnership with RMS!)
  • Finally, thanks to everyone who SLP'd with us (Signed up, Logged, Participated!) The success of our program is based upon your support!  We thank the dedicated and motivated children (and their caregivers), teens and adults who enjoy and appreciate summer reading, learning and fun at their library!
Good luck to all youngsters returning to school!  Continue to visit!  Don't wait until SLP 2022!  BTW, we will have a new vendor, iREAD, and the 2022 theme is:
