Hatch-a-Chicken: The Wait Begins May 31st! Wednesday, May 31st - Monday, July 3rd Peep! Peep! The library is getting chicken eggs! Starting on May 31st, the children's room will be the new home to chicken eggs as they wait to hatch in their incubator. Our chicks will be ready to say "hello" to the world around June 21st. Stop by anytime during our regular opening hours to observe the eggs and the hatching process. This program is kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library.

Summer Reading 2023: Find Your Voice Tuesday, June 20th - Friday, August 25th Summer Reading this year challenges you to "Find Your Voice" at home and at the library through words, movement, art, and more! All ages are welcome to participate by reading, visiting the library, attending programs, or exploring digital challenges on Beanstack. Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, June 6th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our June meeting the PPL Book Club is reading Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, "a charming, witty and compulsively readable exploration of friendship, reckoning, and hope that traces a widow's unlikely connection with a giant Pacific octopus." Monday Movie Matinee: Respect Monday, June 26th at 1:30 p.m. Special showing in honor of this year's Summer Reading theme, Find Your Voice! Following the rise of Aretha Franklin's career from a child singing in her father's church's choir to her international superstardom, the remarkable true story of the music icon's journey to find her voice. Starring Jennifer Hudson. 145 minutes. Rated PG-13.

Genealogy Night Tuesday, June 27th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your genealogy? Do you have a cool story about one of your ancestors you want to share? Join in our monthly Genealogy Night to chat with other family history buffs! All are welcome to attend, from experienced researchers who would like to share tips or stories about great finds, to beginners who want to learn more about the research process and online resources. Library laptops will be available to explore Ancestry Library Edition.

Adult Craft: Sew Your Own Chicken Thursday, June 29th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Come in to the library to see our incubated eggs/chicks, then sew your own chicken! There will be several choices of fabric and felt, so everyone will have their own unique little bird. Fill it with rice for a doorstop, or with cotton for a huggable friend. Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, July 11th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our July meeting the PPL Book Club is reading The Sunshine Girls by Molly Fader, historical fiction in which a moment of great change for two nursing school roommates in 1960s Iowa sparks the friendship of a lifetime. Storytime Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Toddlers (ages 2-5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, games, and stories that encourage language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.

Baby Lapsit Thursdays June 1st, 8th, 15th, and 29th from 10:30-11:00 a.m. Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child while learning new rhymes and stories to share. Each program includes stretches, music, a story, and more followed by an open play time.

Anime Club Thursday, June 8th from 4-6 p.m. Ages 11-15 are invited to watch anime, snack, craft, and socialize. This month watch episodes from Squid Girl (TV-PG) while crafting a Squid in a Bottle. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.

LEGO Club Tuesday, June 13th from 4-5 p.m. Kids ages 5+ are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring your neighbors, big siblings, and school friends! LEGO Club is designed to give kids a safe, creative environment in which they can freely build with LEGOs, interact with peers, and express themselves. This month's theme is "If I Had a Million Dollars..."

Puppy Dog Tales Thursday, June 15th from 4:15-5:00 p.m. Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. Our dogs and trainers provide a supportive environment to practice reading aloud. This is a drop-in event.

Hatch-a-Chicken: Happy Hatch Day! Wednesday, June 21st Peep! Peep! Our eggs are hatching! The seven fertilized eggs that arrived on May 31st are estimated to hatch on June 21st. Visit the Library this week to see these new chicks peck out of their shells and peek into the world. This program is kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library.

Chess Club Wednesday, June 21st from 4-5 p.m. Chess Club will now be hosted every third Wednesday of the month. All ages* and skill levels can learn and play chess at the library. Whether you have been playing for years or want to start playing for the first time, you’re welcome to join us. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed. *Children under age 8 must be accompanied by someone over age 13 at all times.

Little Music Makers Thursday, June 22nd from 10:30-11:00 a.m. Enhance your little one’s love of music during this 30-minute bonding time, with songs, dance, and movement games to excite one’s budding musician. Babies and toddlers ages 0-2 with a caregiver are welcome to drop in and join us!

Escape Room: Egg Rescue (ages 8-12) Tuesday, June 27th from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Ages 8-12 are invited to test their skills in a chicken-themed Escape Room. Decipher clues, problem solve, and crack the code to reunite lost eggs with their mother hens.
