- Use the whiteboard feature on Zoom and Random Word Generator to play Pictionary.
- Use the Share Screen feature and ask everyone to bring pens and paper to play Scattergories.

Crayon Recycling Do you have containers of leftover crayon bits and pieces? Turn them into something new and beautiful with this simple craft. Using muffin tins or silicone shape trays, melt down your old scraps and create ombre or rainbow crayons! These also make great gifts! |

The library may be closed, but it is not empty! Staff members have been stopping in to work on projects that will help us be ready for reopening, whenever that may be. Many books are still being published, and we've been keeping up with ordering, cataloging, and processing them to be ready for checkout. Last week, the talented Cory and Rose visited to create a front window display to show our gratitude to all healthcare and front line workers. While the physical collections are unavailable, we still have plenty of online resources and are working to make sure our community knows about and can access them. This newsletter began in March as a way to raise awareness of our online resources, and we have continued to share every week in hopes of helping everyone find books and activities for their time at home. Janet has been converting all new online temporary cards into physical cards with Pembroke bar codes so that our new library users can access Pembroke-specific collections such as hoopla, Mango, and Ancestry. |

The next selection for our virtual book club is The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton (available for instant download on hoopla), a murder mystery in which one man must live the same day over and over until he identifies the killer. If you watched Unorthodox on Netflix you might be curious about the real story behind this incredibly well done miniseries - I know I was! Lucky for me (and you) the memoir Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots by Deborah Feldman is available on OverDrive and Libby. It’s a quick and interesting read. The author offers a glimpse into a world I knew nothing about and does it in a very authentic way. The writing is apparently not as polished as what the author has become in later life (she was 24 when she wrote this memoir in 2012) and I look forward to reading her subsequent books. If this wasn’t mentioned in numerous essays about the book, and indeed by the author herself in an epilogue I would not have noticed. I think I actually liked watching the miniseries first and then reading the book. The stories are not identical but the mini-series draws on the book for inspiration quite clearly. I recommend both the series and the book in whatever order you can get them! -Teresa |
