Puppies & Pages Thursday, May 2nd at 4:15 p.m. Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. This program provides a supportive environment to practice reading aloud. This is a drop-in event. |

LEGO Club Tuesday, May 14th at 4 p.m. Build LEGO creations to a theme! Grades Pre-K to 5 (ages 5+) are welcome to come and build with the library LEGOs. LEGO Club is designed to give kids a safe, creative environment in which they can freely build with LEGOs, interact with peers, and express themselves! Each month has a challenge in which the builders can participate, but we encourage thinking outside of the box. |

This month's pick comes courtesy of Melissa J., who highly recommends checking out Where'd You Go, Bernadette before the movie comes out this summer. Melissa says of this bitingly sharp and deeply delightful satirical novel by Maria Semple (a writer for Arrested Development): "It's a funny, quick read; the writing is witty and realistic, the characters are quirky and relatable." The story centers around Bernadette Fox, a misunderstood (and somewhat infamous) genius living as a shut-in in Seattle and hovering on the edge of a breakdown. She has promised her daughter Bee a family trip to Antarctica if she gets good grades, and when Bee does get good grades Bernadette throws herself into planning but quickly becomes overwhelmed by the mounting pressure in all aspects of her life. When Bernadette disappears, Bee must piece together various emails, letters, and memos (which make up the majority of the book's format) to figure out where her mother went. The movie, starring Cate Blanchett, is set to be released in August. |
