New Metal Detector Looking for something fun to do this summer? Why not try out our brand new metal detector, now in the Library of Things. Whether you're trying to find something that you've lost, hunting for treasure, or just want to see what you can find, there's a whole world of metal detecting to explore. And, if you're looking for how to get started, we have some brand new books on the subject, which will be on display all month!

New Display: Brave Spaces May 2nd to May 17th Students of PHS’ digital photography class will be displaying their current Photovoice Project at the Pembroke Public Library this May. Brave Spaces consists of multiple topics that are important to discuss in our community, with a focus on mental health, drug addiction, and making sure the students' peers feel supported. Stop by the library while the meeting room is open to see these pieces for yourself.

Yoga Every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Led by Diana Gilchrist and other instructors from the YogaConnection of Plymouth, yoga is gentle, mindful, and open to all levels and any body! A single-class drop-in is $12 and a four-class registration is $45 ($35 for Friends members). Friends members can also purchase an eight-class punch ticket for $80, which is valid for three months. Songs and Stories of the American Folk Revival Thursday, May 2nd at 1:30 p.m.Trace the development of American Folk Revival with duo Lewis and Shea through this live music performance. From its inception through the research and rediscovery of traditional music, to songs by famous folk revivalists, including anthems of the Civil Rights and Anti-War movements, and original songs by Lewis and Shea.

Monday Movie Matinee: La La Land Monday, May 6th at 1:30 p.m. Sebastian and Mia are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart. Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, May 7th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our May meeting the PPL Book Club is reading The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff, in which a young Indian woman finds the false rumors that she killed her husband surprisingly useful—until other women in the village start asking for her help getting rid of their own husbands. LIBBY Basics Wednesday, May 8th at 1:30 p.m. Learn the ins and outs of LIBBY with library staff. This course covers the basics of using LIBBY, the library reading app, including how to search, borrow books, organize your shelf, see what the library has available, and more! PPL Mystery Book Club Thursday, May 16th from 1:30-2:30 p.m. This month's selection is The Only One Left by Riley Sager: Home-health aide Kit McDeere arrives at the decaying cliffside mansion of Hope’s End, to care for Lenora, the last survivor of the Hope family and, for more than fifty years, their presumed murderer. Beyond denying the killings, Lenora has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside of her family home, and a series of strokes has left Hope confined to a wheelchair and only able to communicate via typewriter. Lenora offers to tell Kit what happened that night, but as more details emerge Kit can’t help but think that Lenora’s not being entirely truthful, and can’t help but wonder if the woman’s much more dangerous than she lets on. Genealogy Night Tuesday, May 28th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your genealogy? Do you have a cool story about one of your ancestors you want to share? Join in our monthly Genealogy Night to chat with other family history buffs! All are welcome to attend, from experienced researchers who would like to share tips or stories about great finds, to beginners who want to learn more about the research process and online resources. Library laptops will be available to explore Ancestry Library Edition.

Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, June 4th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our June meeting the PPL Book Club is reading The Mostly True Story of Tanner and Louise by Colleen Oakley, the story of a not-to-be-underestimated elderly woman and an aimless young woman who—if they can outrun the mistakes of their past—might just have the greatest adventure of their lives. May Teen Take-And-Make: Hanging Paper Flowers Available beginning May 1st while supplies last We know teens are busy with school, work, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time. Pick up a Craft Kit in the YA Lounge and craft a hanging paper flower. These crafts are kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library.

Baby Lapsit Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child. Each 30-minute program includes stretches, songs, and rhymes followed by an open play time that allows babies to play and grown-ups to chat.

Storytime Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Toddlers (ages 2 to 5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, games, and stories that encourage language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.

Anime Club Thursday, May 9th from 4:00-5:30pm Ages 11 - 15 are invited to watch anime, snack, craft, and socialize. This month attendees will watch episodes 22 - 24 from Demon Slayer (Rated TV-14) and create a themed craft!

LEGO Club Tuesday, May 14th from 4:00-5:00pm Kids ages 5+ are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring neighbors, big siblings, and school friends and get creative. This month's theme is "Sound the Alarm!"

Chess Club Wednesday, May 15th from 4:00-5:00pm Youth and families can learn and play chess at the Library. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.

Puppy Dog Tales Thursday, May 16th from 4:15-5:00pm Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence.

Local Author Story Time (Ages 5-8) Thursday, May 30th from 4:00-5:00pm Ages 5-8 can join local author Ashley Hiehiapo in a special storytime featuring her picture book Beach Pig followed by a pig bookmark craft. This playful story, based on the lives of real beach-loving pigs, encourages young readers to follow their hearts, face challenges, and pursue their dreams.
