Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, July 5th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our July meeting the PPL Book Club is reading Beasts of a Little Land by Juhea Kim, an epic story of love, war, and redemption set against the backdrop of the Korean independence movement. Pop-Up Art School: Watercolor Flowers Saturday, July 9th from 2-3:30 p.m. Discover the beauty of watercolor paints! Pop-Up Art School will show you how to mix colors like a pro and you'll learn tips and tricks for creating colorful flowers and leaves. The class begins with confidence-building drills so you can practice brush and water control before you make your finished floral painting. You'll leave the class with a finished painting and the confidence and knowledge to use watercolor paints on your own! Space is limited; please sign up in advance by clicking/tapping this link.

Monday Movie Matinee: Fisherman's Friends Monday, July 11th at 1:30 p.m. Ten fisherman from Cornwall are signed by Universal Records and achieve a top ten hit with their debut album of sea shanties. Starring James Purefoy, Meadow Nobrega, and David Hayman. 112 minutes. Rated PG-13.

Monday Movie Matinee: The Great Outdoors Monday, July 18th at 1:30 p.m. An obnoxious loudmouth ruins his mild-mannered brother-in-law's summer vacation by barging in on his remote mountain cabin getaway. Starring John Candy and Dan Aykroyd. 92 minutes. Rated PG. Special showing in honor of this year's Summer Reading theme, "Read Beyond the Beaten Path."

Keeping Your Brain Healthy and Vibrant Wednesday, July 20th from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 20th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Our brains are responsible for every function in our bodies, and yet many of us might not have been taught how to take care of this precious organ to keep it in great working condition throughout our lifespan. This workshop will focus on lifestyle and dietary factors that are shown to improve brain health so you can function at your best in the present and the future. It is never too late (or too early!) to start taking care of your brain, so this workshop is perfect for people of all ages. Led by local health coach Meghan Watts. Monday Movie Matinee: Summer of Soul Monday, July 25th at 1:30 p.m. This music documentary explores and reclaims the legacy of the six-week 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. It features unpublished footage of performances by Nina Simone, B.B. King, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, and Gladys Knight & the Pips at Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). Documentary. 118 minutes. Rated PG-13.

Genealogy Night Tuesday, July 26th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your genealogy? Do you have a cool story about one of your ancestors you want to share? Join in our monthly Genealogy Night to chat with other family history buffs! All are welcome to attend, from experienced researchers who would like to share tips or stories about great finds, to beginners who want to learn more about the research process and online resources. Library laptops will be available to explore Ancestry Library Edition.

Teen Take-and-Make Craft: Fiesta Cat Magnet Available while supplies last We know teens are busy with school, work, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time. Pick up a Craft Kit in the YA Lounge and create a foam Fiesta Cat magnet.

Storytime Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Toddlers (ages 2-5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, games, and stories that encourage language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.

Tie Dye DIY Monday, July 11th (two events) A summer favorite for everyone! Tie-dye a drawstring bag to carry your books, beach towels, and more. Teens are also welcome to bring one white cotton item from home to tie-dye as well (shirt, pillowcase, mask, etc.). Rain date will be Monday, July 18th. LEGO Club Tuesday, July 12th from 4-5 p.m. Kids ages 5+ are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring your neighbors, big siblings, and school friends! LEGO Club is designed to give kids a safe, creative environment in which they can freely build with LEGOs, interact with peers, and express themselves.

Block Party Playtime Monday and Tuesday July 18th and 19th at 10:30 a.m. This is a special program for kids ages 1-7 to use creativity, imagination, and teamwork. Little ones can grow and play with all kinds of blocks; use your hands, carefully stack pieces together, knock them down, and do it all over again! Other items such as puzzles, play dough, and a pop-up tunnel will be available for all. Playtime will take place in lieu of storytime this week.

Salmon STEM Obstacle Course (ages 8-11) Tuesday, July 19th from 4-5 p.m. Ages 8-11 will learn about the vital role salmon play in freshwater and marine ecosystems. After gaining a better understanding of all the hurdles salmon face to make it out to the ocean and back to their home stream again, participants are asked to design a salmon obstacle course that they will then build outside and navigate together. In the event of inclement weather, attendees will instead design an obstacle course on poster paper. This event is presented in collaboration with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation. Baby Lapsit Thursdays July 21st and 28th at 10:30 a.m. Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child while learning new rhymes and stories to share. Each program includes stretches, music, a story, and more followed by an open play time.

Folktales from Asia (ages 5+) Thursday, July 21st from 4-5 p.m. Award-winning storyteller Motoko will entertain families with Asian folktales and songs then teach participants to create an origami craft. This is a drop-in event best suited to ages 5-11 but all families are welcome!

STEM Storytime: Hansel & Gretel's Zipline (ages 4-8) Tuesday, July 26th from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Listen to a retelling of the fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel" then craft a zipline for them to escape the forest and change the end of their story. Create a Creature (ages 8-18) Wednesday, July 27th from 4-5 p.m. Fuel your imagination and draw unique creatures solo or with a team from randomized art prompts. Our artists will be broken into age groups during this single workshop to ensure everyone can get a chance to show off their art skills to friends and peers. Puppy Dog Tales Thursday, July 28th from 4:15-5:00 p.m. Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. Our dogs and trainers provide a supportive environment to practice reading aloud. This is a drop-in event.
