Friends' Basket Raffle October 1st - October 31st The 21st Annual Basket Raffle is here! From October 1st to October 31st, baskets will be on display at the Pembroke Public Library. Tickets can be purchased at the library's main desk for $1 each or 6 for $5; each ticket is a chance to win a basket of your choice. Drawings will be held on Sunday, October 31st at 2:00 p.m. Funds raised by the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library support the purchase of books, programs, museum passes, and more.

Monday Movie Matinee: In the Heights Monday, October 4th from 1:30-4:00 p.m. A film version of the Broadway musical in which Usnavi, a sympathetic New York bodega owner, saves every penny every day as he imagines and sings about a better life. Starring Anthony Ramos. 142 minutes. Rated PG-13.

Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, October 5th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our October meeting the PPL Book Club is reading Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family by Robert Kolker, nonfiction about a midcentury American family with twelve children, six of them diagnosed with schizophrenia, that became science's great hope in the quest to understand the disease. Yoga Every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Led by Barbara Ward and other instructors from the YogaConnection of Plymouth. Open to all levels. A single-class drop-in is $12 and a four-class registration is $45 ($35 for Friends members). Friends members can also purchase an eight-class punch ticket for $80, which is valid for three months.

Jam Night at the Library Wednesdays October 13th and 27th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Two musicians (guitar and mandolin) of "moderate" skill level want to create a space for like-minded musicians to share and play music together. All acoustic string instruments are welcome and others can be considered. Music will be from the 1950's right up to today. Genres include folk, folk/rock, pop, indie, singer songwriter, and others. Please bring some songs you like to play with sheet music so others can join in. Everyone will have a chance to play a few songs. Welcome to the Graveyard: A Tour of Pembroke Cemeteries with The Gravestone Girls Wednesday, October 20th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Go on an armchair tour with the Gravestone Girls! Journey from colonial burial grounds through the rural cemetery movement of the 19th century and into 21st century locations. Why do we have cemeteries and gravestones? Why do they look like they do? How have styles and art evolved over almost 400 years? Find out the answers, plus learn more about some cemeteries right in Pembroke! No registration is required.

Teen Take-And-Make Craft Starting October 4th, while supplies last We know teens are busy with school, work, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time! Pick up a Craft Kit in the YA Lounge (teen section) and put together a cute "Candy Corgi" magnet or a fall charm bracelet. No registration needed.

Storytime Mondays & Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Toddlers (ages 2 to 5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, games, and stories that encourage language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft and play time.

Writing Workshop: The Peculiar Haunting of You Monday, October 4th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Grades 3-6 will write with local author Erin Petti. Join in this after-school workshop and create stories that are both a little spooky and a little sweet while learning brainstorming and writing techniques to hone your skills and open your imagination. Registration is required; sign ups open two weeks before the event.

Puppy Dog Tales Thursday, October 14th from 4:15-5:00 p.m. Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. This program provides a supportive environment to practice reading aloud. This is a drop-in event.

Jungle Jim: Magic & Storytelling Tuesday, October 19th from 4:00-4:45 p.m. Join us at the library for a fun adventure featuring interactive storytelling and silly magic by Jungle Jim! Jungle Jim’s “Tails and Tales” program encourages and motivates children to create their own stories through reading and interactive experiences at their local library. Over 20 audience volunteers participate in entertaining and team building activities. This program is best for ages 3-10 but all families are welcome. “Tails and Tales” has received local funding from the Pembroke Cultural Council. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Pembroke Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Witch's Storytime Thursday, October 21st from 4:00-4:30 p.m. Ages 4-8 can join Miss Kiki in a bewitching storytime featuring Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. Kids will then get to create their own witch's broom from cardstock! Registration is required; sign ups open two weeks before the event.

Spooky STEAM Monday, October 25th from 4:30-5:00 p.m. Come explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) as we transform ordinary objects into a crop of spooky friends! Geared to ages 3-7 but open to younger and older siblings. Registration is required; sign ups open two weeks before the event. This program is being generously provided by STEAM Up Team.
