Summer Reading Challenge Now to August 23rd Patrons are challenged to "Read, Renew, Repeat" this summer at home and at the Library. All ages are welcome to participate by reading, visiting the library, attending programs, or unlocking the "Nature's Friend" badge on Beanstack. At the Farmer's Market Saturday, August 10th and 24th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find our table at the Farmer’s Market on 8/10 and 8/24 at the brand new Community Center. Younger kids will enjoy a storytime on August 10th (check out the details below), and our staff.

Adult Craft Night: Upcycled Bottle Planters Wednesday, August 7th at 6:00 p.m. Learn how to turn old plastic bottles into self-watering planters with Library Staff. Whether you’re looking for a new way to upcycle or you just want an easy way to make sure your plants stay watered, we’re thrilled to be able to walk you through the process, and to give you the knowledge to make more on your own! PPL Mystery Book Club Thursday, August 15th from 1:30-2:30 p.m. This month's selection is The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: Alicia Berenson seems to live a charmed life as a famous painter, until one night she shoots her husband dead. Her subsequent refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. Theo Faber, a criminal psychotherapist, has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. The Joy of Composting - Turning Garbage into Gold Thursday, August 22nd at 2:30 p.m. Learn how to turn kitchen scraps and yard waste into nutrient rich compost for your garden! This presentation will cover the basics of composting, including selecting a composting method, balancing green and brown materials, managing moisture and aeration, and troubleshooting common issues. You will learn to reduce waste, enrich your soil, garden sustainably and cultivate a greener lifestyle.

Genealogy Night Tuesday, August 27th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your genealogy? Do you have a cool story about one of your ancestors you want to share? Join in our monthly Genealogy Night to chat with other family history buffs! All are welcome to attend, from experienced researchers who would like to share tips or stories about great finds, to beginners who want to learn more about the research process and online resources. Library laptops will be available to explore Ancestry Library Edition.

Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, September 3rd from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our September meeting the PPL Book Club is reading The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters, in which a four-year-old Mi’kmaq girl goes missing from the blueberry fields of Maine, sparking a mystery that will haunt the survivors, unravel a family, and remain unsolved for nearly fifty years. August Teen Take-And-Make: Lacing Hedgehogs Available beginning August 1st while supplies last We know teens are busy with school, work, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time. Pick up a Craft Kit in the YA Lounge and craft a hedgehog with cardboard and string. These crafts are kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library.

Dungeons and Dragons (Ages 15-18) Thursdays, August 1st to 22nd from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Teens (15-18) will join a band of fellow adventurers in this four session introduction to Dungeons and Dragons! You’ll be walked through the basics of character creation and navigating the Player’s Handbook. Work with a group of others to pursue a unique quest! Sessions for this adventure will be on Thursdays August 1, 8, 15, and 22. Due to the structure of this event, we ask that registrants ensure they can attend all dates. Storytime Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Toddlers (ages 2 to 5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, and a story that encourages language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.

Baby Lapsit Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child. Each 30-minute program includes stretches, songs, and rhymes followed by an open play time that allows babies to play and grown-ups to chat.

Anime Club Thursday, August 8th from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Ages 11 - 15 are invited to watch anime, snack, and socialize. Attendees will enjoy a showing of Princess Mononoke (rated PG-13) and decide on activities for our fall meetings.

Farmers Market Storytime Saturday, August 10th from 11:00-11:30 a.m. Join Miss Melissa for a storytime geared toward ages 4-8 at the Pembroke Farmers Market (outside the Community Center). Families can also pick up a special craft to take home. Siblings and friends are welcomed!

LEGO Club Tuesday, August 13th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Kids ages 4+ are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring neighbors, big siblings, and school friends and get creative. This month's theme is "Upside-Down"

Puppy Dog Tales Thursday, August 15th from 4:15-5:00 p.m. Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.

Sand Art Central Tuesday, August 20th from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Ages 5 - 15 are invited for a drop-in hour of sand art collages. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.

Chess Club Wednesday, August 21st from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Youth and families can learn and play chess at the Library. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.
