Summer Reading began last week, but there is still plenty of time to sign up! Readers of all ages can join one of our four programs: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (Babies-Pre-K), Read & Bead for Kids (Age 3-Grade 6) or Teens (Grades 6-12), or Pages & Prizes (Age 18+). Sign up at the library or on our website, where you can also find out more about each program and special events being held this summer.

The Friends' Silent Auction starts soon! Stop by the library during the month of July to bid on some great items donated by our Friends and patrons. Donations of new or gently used items are still being accepted. All proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library and will fund "extras" for the library including discounted museum passes, bestsellers, items for our Library of Things, and programs for all ages. |

Monday Movie Matinee: Becoming Jane Monday, July 10th at 1:30 p.m. Special showing in honor of this year's Summer Reading theme, Find Your Voice! A biographical portrait of a pre-fame Jane Austen and her romance with a young Irishman. Starring Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy. 120 minutes. Rated PG.

Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, July 11th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our July meeting the PPL Book Club is reading The Sunshine Girls by Molly Fader, historical fiction in which a moment of great change for two nursing school roommates in 1960s Iowa sparks the friendship of a lifetime. Genealogy Night Tuesday, July 25th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your genealogy? Do you have a cool story about one of your ancestors you want to share? Join in our monthly Genealogy Night to chat with other family history buffs! All are welcome to attend, from experienced researchers who would like to share tips or stories about great finds, to beginners who want to learn more about the research process and online resources. Library laptops will be available to explore Ancestry Library Edition.

Find Your Voice Through Words: Writing Workshop Wednesday, July 26th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. From memoir to anecdote, from essay to poem, voice is the most essential and hardest to define quality of good writing. Whether you want help getting started, have written in the past, or want to freshen up your writing, this workshop will help you develop your unique writing voice through a variety of exercises. Join us and get creative in this enjoyable, hands-on, stress-free workshop for all levels. It doesn’t matter if your audience is yourself, your family, or the public. As William Watson Purkey wrote, "Dance like nobody’s watching; love like you’ve never been hurt. Sing like nobody’s listening…” Why not add “Write as if nobody’s judging” to that list and have fun? July Teen Take-And-Make: Jellyfish Available beginning July 1st while supplies last We know teens are busy with school, work, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time. Pick up a Craft Kit in the YA Lounge and make a jellyfish from pony beads and foam!

Storytime Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Toddlers (ages 2-5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, games, and stories that encourage language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.

Baby Lapsit Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child while learning new rhymes and stories to share. Each program includes stretches, music, a story, and more followed by an open play time.

LEGO Club Tuesday, July 11th from 4-5 p.m. Kids ages 5+ are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring your neighbors, big siblings, and school friends! LEGO Club is designed to give kids a safe, creative environment in which they can freely build with LEGOs, interact with peers, and express themselves. This month's theme is "LEGO Zipline!"

Anime Club Thursday, July 13th from 4:00-5:45 p.m. Ages 11-15 are invited to watch anime, snack, craft and socialize. This month watch Song of the Sea (rated PG, run time 93 minutes) and craft fairy jars. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.

Chess Club Wednesday, July 19th from 4-5 p.m. Chess Club will now be hosted every third Wednesday of the month. All ages* and skill levels can learn and play chess at the library. Whether you have been playing for years or want to start playing for the first time, you’re welcome to join us. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed. *Children under age 8 must be accompanied by someone over age 13 at all times.

Puppy Dog Tales Thursday, July 20th from 4:15-5:00 p.m. Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. Our dogs and trainers provide a supportive environment to practice reading aloud. This is a drop-in event.

Spanish Fun for Toddlers Monday, July 31st from 10:30-11:00 a.m. ¡Hola amigos! Ages 2-4 with a caregiver are welcome to attend an interactive class that introduces Spanish through songs, games, and play. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.

Spanish Fun Club Monday, July 31st from 4:00-4:45 p.m. ¡Hola amigos! Ages 7-12 are welcome to attend an immersive class in Spanish through games, music, history, and more! No prior knowledge of Spanish is required as this workshop is geared toward beginning and intermediate students of the language. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.
