Monday Movie Matinee: Land Monday, August 1st at 1:30 p.m. A bereaved woman seeks out a new life, off the grid in Wyoming. Starring Robin Wright. 89 minutes. Rated PG-13. This is a special showing in honor of this year's Summer Reading theme, "Read Beyond the Beaten Path."

A Cultural and Historical Reflection of the 1960s Through the Music of The Beatles Monday, August 1st from 6-7 p.m. A multi-media presentation that highlights the influence the Beatles had on world culture, particularly during the 1960s. While their music established a new standard, their influence in other cultural areas was equally undeniable. They influenced hairstyles. They set new trends in fashion. They spoke out against things they saw as wrong. They were irreverent. They evolved greatly, despite being in the spotlight as a group for fewer than ten years. This presentation features live acoustic music and audience sing-alongs, coupled with rare audio and video clips. Presented by Fran Hart, founding member of the Beatles tribute band 4EverFab. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Pembroke Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Pembroke Public Library Book Club Tuesday, August 2nd from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For our August meeting the PPL Book Club is reading Death at Greenway by Lori Rader-Day, a historical mystery set at Agatha Christie's holiday estate during World War II, where nurses have come to care for evacuated children. Genealogy Night Tuesday, August 30th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your genealogy? Do you have a cool story about one of your ancestors you want to share? Join in our monthly Genealogy Night to chat with other family history buffs! All are welcome to attend, from experienced researchers who would like to share tips or stories about great finds, to beginners who want to learn more about the research process and online resources. Library laptops will be available to explore Ancestry Library Edition.

Teen Take-and-Make: Ocean Sticker Mosaics Available in August while supplies last We know teens are busy with camp, summer jobs, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time. Pick up a Craft Kit in the YA Lounge and create a sea life mosaic from stickers.

Storytime Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Toddlers (ages 2-5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, games, and stories that encourage language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.

Nature Collage (ages 8-12) Wednesday, August 3rd from 4-5 p.m. Ages 8-12 will take a nature walk* to collect leaves from the library's back garden then create collages of leaf rubbings with crayons and paper. Kids will get to experience the beauty of nature with an easy and fun art form! If rainy, collected leaves will be brought in by the instructor.

LEGO Club Tuesday, August 9th from 4-5 p.m. Kids ages 5+ are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring your neighbors, big siblings, and school friends! LEGO Club is designed to give kids a safe, creative environment in which they can freely build with LEGOs, interact with peers, and express themselves.

Star Jar Craft (ages 12-18) Wednesday, August 10th from 4-5 p.m. Teens (ages 12-18) can join us in creating glow-in-the-dark Star Jars. Baby Lapsit Thursdays August 11th and 25th at 10:30 a.m. Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child while learning new rhymes and stories to share. Each program includes stretches, music, a story, and more followed by an open play time.

Block Party Playtime Monday and Tuesday August 15th and 16th at 10:30 a.m. This is a special program for kids ages 1-7 to use creativity, imagination, and teamwork. Little ones can grow and play with all kinds of blocks; use your hands, carefully stack pieces together, knock them down, and do it all over again! Other items such as puzzles, play dough, and a pop-up tunnel will be available for all. Playtime will take place in lieu of storytime this week.

Cosmic Storytime (ages 4-8) Wednesday, August 17th from 1:00-1:45 p.m. Calling all cosmic chefs! Alec Carvlin will be visiting to read his debut picture book, How to Bake a Universe. Kids will love decorating their own cosmic sunglasses, hearing the book read aloud by the author, and asking questions about the fun and funky science at the end. Puppy Dog Tales Thursday, August 18th from 4:15-5:00 p.m. Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. Our dogs and trainers provide a supportive environment to practice reading aloud. This is a drop-in event.
