Lawyers AND Libraries October 26 - 31
 
SML is participating in the 2020 "Lawyers AND Libraries" virtual statewide program Oct. 27 - 31 in partnership with the Louisiana State Bar Association. Louisiana attorneys will provide free, 15 - 20 minute "Ask a Lawyer" consultations by phones plus three webinars on social media. Click here for more details and to register for the event.
Library Spotlight - Friends of the Library Week Oct. 18 - 24
Friends of Libraries groups have their very own national week of celebration! United for Libraries is coordinating the 15th annual National Friends of Libraries Week Oct. 18 - 24, 2020. The celebration offers an opportunity to celebrate Friends groups, including the Shreve Memorial Library Friends, as well as to raise awareness of Friends groups and promote membership. The Shreve Memorial Library Friends is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization committed to raising funds and supporting programs that enhance learning, reading and a love of the library throughout Caddo Parish. Tough Topics Lecture Series Continues Thursdays in October
 
Shreve Memorial Library, in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health, Region 7, is presenting the 2020 Tough Topics series on opioid addiction and substance abuse. Each Thursday in October, the library will host a virtual discussion with professionals in the field at 6:00 p.m. The discussions are free and open to the public; however, registration is required. The scheduled talks are:
  • Oct. 15 - What Are Opioids & What Do They Do?
  • Oct. 22 - Treatment & Substance Abuse Services
  • Oct. 29 - Overview of Louisiana Opioid Preparedness Plan

Jumpstart's Read for the Record

 Jumpstart's Read for the Record brings together millions of adults and children around the world each year to read the same book on the same day in order to raise awareness about the critical importance of early literacy and access to high-quality books. This year Read for the Record will take place on October 29, 2020.
