Library Closed Memorial Day
The library will be closed Monday, May 30th in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen Tuesday the 31st at 8am.
 
The library is always open online! Check out our app or the e-Resources page of our website to find ebooks, audiobooks, streaming content, and more.

Ms. Tiffany's May Flower Garden

All May long, help Ms. Tiffany grow a pretend flower garden in the window of her office. Choose a paper flower, print your name on it, and stick it to the window. Let's make the flower garden bloom! How many flowers can we grow?

Mindful Monday Moments
Mondays in May, 10:30am

Did you know that mindfulness techniques can help children focus, improve patience, regain or maintain a sense of calm, and generally feel happier? Families with young children are invited to watch a weekly video series where Ms. Tiffany will explore mindfulness ideas, concepts, and exercises. Grab and Go activity kits will happen every other week. Kits will be made available Monday mornings, and are first come first serve while supplies last. One kit per child. Pick up in the children's department.

Learn About Leader Dogs

Families with children of all ages are invited to attend a program to learn about Leader Dogs. Adam Fleeger, Leader Dog Ambassador, and his dog, Isaac, will join us as we read a story about working dogs, and learn more about what it means to be a Leader Dog Ambassador. Stuffed Animal Storytime & Sleepover
May 26, 6pm

Families are invited to a very special storytime! Children can bring their favorite stuffed animal to storytime, and then the stuffed animal can spend the night at the library! Animals can be picked up after 12pm on Friday, May 27. Please one stuffed animal per child. Families can track the activity of the stuffed animals on our Facebook and Instagram accounts!

Interactive Movie Night

YA Zone

Tweens and teens grades 4-12 can join us for a special interactive showing of Star Wars: A New Hope!
This screening is all about audience participation.
See a lightsaber? Grab a pool noodle and duel your neighbor! 
A wise old man greets you with "Hello there?" Answer, "Sup dude!" Costumes welcome!

Teens Grades 7-12 welcome to join! Fans of anime and manga are welcome to join the BAPL YA Anime Club! In this inclusive club run by teens, you decide what to do each meeting. You can watch an anime, read a manga, discuss the series you've been binging, create and share your own manga drawings, make Anime-related crafts, and more. If any of this sounds fun, come check out the Anime Club.

Each month we will vote on what kind of book to read from a list of suggestions. Come back to book club to tell us what you read for the month. The good, the bad, the best, we want to hear it all...but please no spoilers!

7 Healthy Heart Habits & Blood Pressure Screening

Join us for a free educational class by Linda Reichart, RN, CDCES, from the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center. This class will teach you the 7 healthy habits to establish daily to help decrease your blood pressure. Linda will also teach you about the Dash Diet and a sample menu plan. The Dash diet was developed to prevent and treat high blood pressure, and has proven highly effective in lowering blood cholesterol. Food models will be used to show how to develop healthy meals.
Following the class, a nurse will be on hand to do free blood pressure screenings from 2-3pm.

Friends of the Library Update & 2-Day Book Sale
Regular Book Shop hours:

Your mom called. She wants books for Mother’s Day. Also breakfast in bed. Don’t know how to cook? We always have cookbooks for sale in our bookstore. Plus plenty of mystery, romance, history, gardening books, CDs, DVDs, audio books, and much more. 
 
Election Day is Tuesday, May 17th and the Butler Library is now a designated voting center. Be sure and check if you are impacted due to the location change. The Library Friends want to reward everybody for doing their civic duty, so we’re opening the bookstore that Tuesday, from 3-6 pm. Stop by for a $1 hardcover or a paperback for 50₵, plus pick up a free ink pen! 
 
Our big, two-day book sale is Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4, from 9 am to 3 pm both days. Set up for the sale is Thursday June 2nd and starts at noon. Take down is Monday, June 6th, also at noon. Free books are your reward for helping! People interested in helping with set up or take down, leave a message for the Friends at the Info Desk. And shoppers, feel free to bring in your own canvas bags, especially for Saturday’s $5 a bag sale.

The Butler Area Public Library Obit and Newspaper Index has citations for over 478,000 newspaper articles published in Butler County newspapers from 1818-2019.
