And after a busy summer, it is back to school season! Summer reading was a success: participants read over 4,000 books, and we gave away over 700 books. Thanks again to our sponsors Goodwill Hunters for helping to make that possible. Moving onto the fall, we have some new programs and events for September, in addition to our regular programming. All programs are subject to change, and we will post updates on our Events Calendar and our social media. Keep scrolling for more!

Adult Programs

Now that it's September, we are excitedly planning all of our fall and winter activities! We are excited to add a new book group, a community coffee hour, and a new Meetup group! Also be sure to check out our upcoming author talk, sponsored by our Friends Group. No registration necessary unless specified. Questions about an adult program? Book Groups for Adults
We have three monthly book groups for adults! Titles can be picked up at the Check Out Desk a month in advance. The Nonfiction Book Group meets in-person on the first Tuesday of every month; the pick is The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson. The Contemporary Book Group meets virtually the second Wednesday of every month; the pick is The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict & Victoria Christopher Murray. The new #FYP Book Group (for your page) is inspired by books that are popular online. It meets the last week of every month; the pick is Neon Gods by Katee Robert.
Shut Up & Write Meetup
Thursdays, 6:00 p.m.
We are excited to host Shut Up & Write! Meetup Group. These events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing. All writers welcome. RSVP at Meetup.com and arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled at this in-person event.
Adult Dungeons & Dragons Interest Meeting

Are you into Dungeons & Dragons? Have you been thinking about giving it a try? Have a character you want to play with? Whether you're an ultra-noob or you've been playing since 1st edition, you are welcome to join one or both preliminary meetings. 
Author Talk with Josh Cutler
Thursday, September 22, 7:00 p.m.
State representative Josh Cutler will join us at the Library on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7 pm to discuss his latest book, The Boston Gentleman's Mob: Maria Chapman and the Abolition Riot of 1835. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Ventress Library. 
South of Boston Board Game Meetup
Saturday, September 24, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Come by and play games like Catan, Wingspan, and Bohnanza. Never heard of any of these games? That's okay! New and veteran players welcome. Come ready to learn or bring a game you love. This free meetup is open to adults of all ages. No registration required, but RSVPs on Meetup.com are welcome.
Community Coffee Hour
Monday, September 26, 5:00 p.m.
This new series will feature a different community leader each month. Guests will give a brief presentation about the the work they do in Marshfield, followed by a community Q&A session. Our first guest will be Teresa Flynn, Public Health Nurse for Marshfield. Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be served. 
Kids Programs
We are excited to welcome September! We know how much our friends love all things Pokémon! This month’s scavenger hunt is Pokémon themed, in addition to two new programs. Weekly programming begins on September 19, so make sure to check out what we have going on (click the calendar to the left to view). We have storytimes, take & makes, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, read to a dog, yoga, music, and more! Questions? Email Wendy at wgardner-breindel@ocln.org.
 
Pokémon Party
September 14, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Create your own Pokémon first using a character sheet and clay. And make your own Pokémon badges! This fun librarian-led event is for children ages 6-11 on their own while their caregiver waits in the library. Registration is required.
Pokémon Club
September 21, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Join Miss Jen at Pokémon club! Explore Pokémon cards and characters. Talk about and trade cards with new and old friends! This event is for children ages 6-11 only on their own while their caregiver waits in the library. Registration is required.
Fall Young Writers Program
Wednesdays, September, 21st - November 9th, 4:30-6:00 p.m. This 9 week program is for aspiring writers in grades 3-6. Work with published author Erin Petti to learn about and create your own book, with a showcase on Wednesday, November 16. Registration is mandatory and opens on September 14 at 9:00 a.m. on our Events Calendar. If your child participated in this program in the spring, they are not eligible for the fall session. 
Lego Club
September 28, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Join us in the Children's Program Room for LEGO Club! This casual family event is for best for supervised children over 3 years old, though siblings of all ages are welcome. No registration required. 
Community Programs
We have several exciting programs offered by community partners, including a breastfeeding support group and sensory yoga, both in our children's program room. Please note that registration is required and handled by each outside organization. Click a link to learn more!

Teen Programs

Join us for an official Mario Kart Tournament, presented by One Up Games! The winner will get an ultra-super prize. Registration is required.
