It is officially fall at Ventress Memorial Library. We have a lot of awesome new books and events coming your way. Please note that all programs are subject to change, and we will post updates on our Events Calendar, Facebook, and Instagram. In addition to upcoming library programs, we are excited to announce two upcoming events from the Friends of Ventress Memorial Library.
 
On Saturday, October 22, stop by the Children's Program Room from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for a Pop-Up Book Sale, featuring leather-bound classics and special editions, hardcover adult fiction, and hardcover and paperback children’s books.
 
On Wednesday, November 2, the Friends will host their second Annual Trivia Night at Haddad's with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a rousing evening of trivia, a 50/50 raffle, and a casual buffet dinner with a cash bar while supporting the Friends' largest fundraiser of the year. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased online or at the library.

We have a great selection of regular and new programs happening this month. With book groups, gaming programs, writing meetups, crafts, concerts, and more, there is something for everyone. Below is a selection of programs. For a complete listing, check out our October program brochure.
 
Featured Adult Programs
Adult Book Groups
We have three monthly book groups for adults! Titles can be picked up at the Check Out Desk a month in advance. The Nonfiction Book Group meets in-person on the first Tuesday of every month. The Contemporary Book Group meets virtually the second Wednesday of every month. The #FYP Book Group (for your page) is inspired by books that are popular online. It meets the last week of every month.
Community Coffee Hour
Monday, October 17, 5:00 p.m.
Community Coffee Hour features a different community leader each month. Guests will give a brief overview of the the work they do in Marshfield, followed by a Q&A session. Our first guest will be Alli Mayer and Stacey Toon of Road to Responsibility. Coffee, water, and light refreshments will be served. 
Felted Pumpkins
Tuesday, October 18, 6:00 p.m.
This program is open to ages 13 and up. Learn how to needle felt wool with Pop up Art School. Sculpt two pumpkins and leave with the knowledge and basic supplies to continue felting on your own. Registration Required
Lost String Band
Sunday, October 30, 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Chris Reckling and Anne Rouillard are the Long Lost String Band. Bring your friends and be ready to stomp your feet to the music as they play old time fiddle tunes and early country songs.
Miss Wendy and Miss Jen are happy to welcome October and all the fun Halloween programs that come with it. We have created some spooktacular events and programs to celebrate our favorite month! Halloween Dance & Sing
Tuesday, October 18, 10:00-10:45 a.m.
Join Miss Wendy for Halloween themed singing and dancing! This fun program is intended for our Preschool friends, ages 3-5. 
No registration necessary.
Two Halloween Parties
Wednesday, October 19, 10:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m.
Join Have a frighteningly good time with Miss Wendy and Miss Jen as we celebrate our favorite holiday! Ages 2-5, join us at 10:00 a.m. and ages 6-11, join us at 3:00 p.m. Wear your favorite family friendly costume, eat some treats, listen to a story and make a craft! We can't wait! Registration required for all attendees.

Older Kids Book Club - grades 3-6
Wednesdays, October 5 & 26 3:00-4:00 p.m.
This cool program has two parts! On our first week, come to the library, listen to one (or two) chapters of City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab! We will talk about the book and make inferences based on our first chapter. On the second meet up we will discuss what we thought about the book and whether it met our expectations! Seasonal snacks included. Registration Required
There's always something fun happening in the Teen Zone. Our teen room is open for teens in grades 6-12 to hang out and study. The Wave Makerspace is open by appointment. You can also drop in and play our Switch any day after school. For all our events, view our teen events calendar.

Early Release Day Party
Wednesday, October 5,1:00-5:00 p.m.
Come spend the afternoon in the Teen Zone playing video games on our Nintendo Switch, decorating for Halloween, and eating FREE PIZZA! We will have lots of crafting supplies available so bring your ideas and help us get ready for spooky season!
Board Games & Art Nights
Board Game Night: Tuesday, October 18, 5:00-6:30 p.m.
Come to the Library on the third Tuesday of every month for Teen Board Game Night! Choose games from our collection to play! 
 
Mega Teen Art Night: Wednesday, October 19, 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Paint? Yes! Origami? Yes! Sand art? You betcha! Come make and create with other teens in a no-stakes environment! Spooky special: decorate your own mini coffin!
Teen Spooky Lock-In!
Event Date, Event Time
Once the Library has closed, come to the library to ring in spooky season with our first ever Teen Lock-In! Pizza, face painting, flashlight tag, and more await! Attendees MUST be 12-18 years old! Teens must have parent permission and reliable transportation to and from the library on the evening of
the lock-in in order to attend. Registration Required
Author Talk with Kayla Cottingham
Tuesday, October 25, 6:00-7:00 p.m.
We are proud to present a Q+A evening with Kayla Cottingham! Kayla is the New York Times bestselling author of My Dearest Darkest with a second novel is slated for April 2023. Join us in Library Plaza for this special event! 
Early Release Day Anime Club
Wednesday, October 26, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Are you a huge Anime fan? Do you love to talk about your favorite Manga? Join us for a general interest meeting! We will eat snacks and watch some episodes of Spy x Family!
