Ventress Voice · November 2024 · Vol 7.11
As we draw to the twilight of the year, we remember those around us and the wonderful feelings of community that arise from coming together. As the nights get longer and colder, let us enjoy one another's company, whether it's trying a new activity or reading a new book.
Friends of the Ventress Memorial Library Highlights
The Friends want to support literacy and play in the Children’s Room, and we could use your help!
Our children’s librarian, Wendy, notes that exploration and play are key in a child’s development. For this reason, play time is embedded into every story time at the library. Research shows that story time enhances vocabulary and literacy skills; including play time promotes social skills and fosters children’s understanding of the world.
In  the Ventress children’s collection room, caregivers have commented on how nice it is to see their children interact with each other, playing with toys and being ‘unplugged.’
And now, the Children’s program room and collection room could use an upgrade. Donations are wanted! An Amazon Wish List has been created. We’ve purchased a sturdy kitchen set for storytimes that is begging to be stocked with toy food. Imagine young ones playing with brand new animal sets, trains, tools, blocks, dolls, sorting/matching activities, and much more. There’s something for every child on this wishlist.
Would you join us in donating to the Children’s Room? It’s easy. Just in time for the holidays, you could make a tax-deductible gift to the children of Marshfield. Imagine visiting the Children’s Room to see your gift in action!
Check out the Marshfield VML Friends Children’s Room Wish List and be sure to set the shipping address to the Library’s: 15 Library Plaza, Marshfield MA, 02050.

Thank you for your support of the Children’s Room/Library. The children of Marshfield will be smiling from ear to ear!

Irish Voices with Stephen Collins
Tuesday, November 19 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Celebrate Irish heritage with this special performance, Irish Voices, with Stephen Collins, part of our popular Cultural Series.
They call it The Norton Anthology of English Literature and yet many of the writers included were born in Ireland. The commonality, of course, is the English language but there are vast cultural differences which will be explored in this performance. A great deal of Irish writing deals with the land, the past, the church, and the changing political landscape. Yeats, Joyce, Heaney, McCourt, and other prominent writers are represented in this dramatic offering.
This program is partially sponsored by the Marshfield Cultural Council.
Welcome November! We've got lots of fun things planned for our young friends here at the Library as we go through Fall. Stay up to date and follow our Kids Facebook or Instagram!
