Louise Meredith teaches the lower and uppercase alphabet of this essential script. 
 
This class is presented by the Birmingham Calligraphy Guild and sponsored by the Hoover Public Library. Registration and supplies for your first class are free! The BCG and HPL ask that you join the guild for subsequent classes to allow more patrons the opportunity to attend. Patrons must be 18 years or older to attend all classes. Annual dues are $25.

Live on the Plaza: Hiroya Tsukamoto
 
Hiroya Tsukamoto is a one-of-a-kind composer, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan. He began playing the five-string banjo when he was thirteen and took up the guitar shortly after.
 
Hiroya has released three solo albums. He leads concerts internationally including several appearances at Blue Note NYC, United Nations and Japanese National Television (NHK).

Neurographic art, or process art can be a tool to manage anxiety and stress. In this program, we explore some methods of this art form. One of these techniques can be used to paint a portrait of your pet or Libby, who will be joining us for this program.

Visual Art Exhibition: Katie Baldwin
 
Katie Baldwin is a book artist, printmaker and fiber artist. Baldwin was one of seven international artists selected in 2004 to learn traditional Japanese woodblock printing (mokuhanga) from master carvers and printers at the Nagasawa Residency on Awaji Island. 
 
As Fulbright Scholar in 2021, Baldwin developed her project, Modified Landscape, at the International Print Center in Taipei, Taiwan. She has traveled internationally as an artist in residence to Scotland, Iceland, Nicaragua, Poland, Cuba, Mexico and Japan.

Tchaikovsky is said to have "put his entire soul" into his final symphony and the resulting somber and sighing music gives the listener a rare glimpse into the life of a complex man struggling with his identity. Santiago Canon-Valencia has been praised as one of the most promising young cellists of his generation. Watch as he returns to the Alys Stephens Center stage to take on Shostakovich's exciting Cello Concerto No 1.

John Waite
 
As a solo artist and as the lead singer of The Babys and Bad English, John Waite was a fixture of radio stations in the 80's and 90s. His #1 worldwide smash recordings of "Missing You" and "When I See You Smile" rank amongst some of his biggest hits still heard on the radio today.
 
With a talent for power ballads and driving arena rock, Waite performing his catalogue of hits from his 40-year career as a solo artist. 
 
Tickets are $35 plus processing fees.
