Read and discuss The Glatstein Chronicles by Jacob Glatstein. In the summer of 1934, thirty-seven-year-old American Yiddish poet Jacob Glatstein boarded a transatlantic ship for Europe to visit his dying mother. From New York he sailed to France, traveled by train to Paris, crossed through Nazi Germany and stopped in Warsaw before continuing on to his hometown of Lublin, Poland. These books were a precursor of what was to come for Jews throughout Europe, as seen by an eyewitness. A short film precedes the book discussion from the Yiddish Book Center.
