Read-a-thon
February 1 - March 15
Join in at any time during the above dates, the sooner the better!
 
Join us for our 1st Annual Read-a-thon! Participants will receive a swag bag full of reading essentials including a journal to set reading goals, jot down thoughts, reflections, and reviews of the titles read. We encourage sharing thoughts on your readings on the Facebook event page, or by email. Each week one lucky participant will receive a free Dewey Decimal Dog tote bag. To wrap up our Read-a-thon, a dessert reception will be held on March 27th. Click here for details.
$25 donation to participate. Proceeds from the Read-a-thon will fund Dearborn Public Library special projects. Sponsored by the Dearborn Library Foundation.

Cooking Matters at Home:
A 6-Week Online Course
 
Tuesdays at 6:00pm - 7:00pm, starting February 8

During this 6-week course participants will:
  • Join a weekly virtual nutrition and meal planning lesson to learn tips and tricks for eating healthy on a budget.
  • Watch instructional cooking videos featuring the recipe of the week, with emphasis on basic culinary skills and food safety.
  • Receive a bag of groceries after class to practice your cooking skills at home.
Space is limited & registration is required. A Zoom link for program access will be sent to the registered email address prior to the start of the program. Participants need to be available for all 6 weeks. Please do not register if you cannot attend the entire course run.

The FOLD Book Sale is held on the Second Wednesday of the month from 10am-6pm. Books, magazines, audiobooks, movies, and more are located in the 1st Floor Rotunda and in Room 113.
 
Items are sold as is.
FOLD accepts cash, checks, and debit/credit cards.
 
FOLD also has a small, ongoing sale located on the 2nd Floor across from the Adult Reference Desk. These sale shelves are available for browsing and purchase during library hours up until 15 minutes before closing.

Classics Revisited: The Noble Hustle

Dearborn Public Library’s free book discussion group “Classics Revisited” meets on the third Wednesday of each month (September through May), from 7:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. 
 
The group is doing a hybrid meeting format this year. Discussions will be held in-person in the auditorium at Henry Ford Centennial Library. The auditorium will allow for social distancing. Masks are recommended, but not required. For those of you who would like to attend remotely, please click here to join through Zoom.

Soup & Dumplings 3 Ways

Join us for a hands-on dumpling-making class.  Adults and Teens will learn how to make quick, drop, and rolled dumplings. Gluten-free alternatives will be discussed. Participants will be able to taste the dumplings in a Vegetable Broth. Making your own stock or broth will also be discussed. An ingredient list will be available prior to the program. 
 
Space is limited and registration is required. This in-person cooking class is not socially distanced and participants are required to wear masks regardless of vaccination status.

Book Talk with Singleton and Freeman

Authors Ian Ross Singleton and Cal Freeman will be here to discuss and do readings from their new books. Singleton’s novel, Two Big Differences, was published in 2021, and Freeman’s book of poetry, Poolside at the Dearborn Inn, will be published in April 2022.

Budapest: Pearl of the Danube

Come and travel through one of the Roman Empire's northern provinces and experience the spas, bridges, markets and historical areas of "Buda", "Obuda", and "Pest", three cities which merged in 1873 to form the popular tourist destination we know today.
 
Ms. Mariya Fogarasi will share her pictures of the historical landmarks, geography and culture that she encountered while living with her family in Budapest, Hungary for over six years. Be sure to register to receive the Zoom link for this interesting program!
Book & Cook: Ramp Up Your Ramen

Join us for a hands-on noodle bowl class. Teens and College-aged students will learn how to make a quick, flavorful broth and try different kinds of Asian noodles and add-ins. Gluten-free alternatives will be discussed. Participants will be able to taste the noodles in a Vegetable Broth.  Fresh vegetables, tofu, Halal chicken, and seasonings will be available to add in. An ingredient list will be available prior to the program.

Abraham Lincoln: A New Birth of Freedom

Kevin Wood portrays President Abraham Lincoln; one of our nation's most beloved and esteemed historical figures. Adults and children alike will enjoy hearing an account of American history from Lincoln's lifetime as told by the president, himself. 
 
Mr. Lincoln quotes from his best-known speeches and writings. He also talks about his own inspiring story; of how he rose from a humble background to the highest office in the land through self-study, hard work, ambition, and a strong moral character.

Electric Cars: Past, Present, & Future

Electric cars have been around longer than you think. In this presentation you'll hear about the early efforts by Henry Ford and Thomas Edison to develop an electric car, see how important the Detroit Electric company was in the early success of electric vehicles, and find out about the plans that major automotive manufacturers have for the growth of electric vehicles currently. You'll also see how the greater Detroit area is contributing heavily to this growth; as well as self-driving electric vehicles, and how they are becoming a reality.

This month’s theme will be questions from the Babysitter’s Club graphic novels. Top 3 scores will win a Babysitter's Club graphic novel! This program is for ages 10 and up. Registration is required. Limited space. Masks are required for all participants regardless of vaccination status. This program will also be held remotely. For those who would like to attend remotely, a Zoom link will be provided on our website a few days before the program date.
