Message from the Manager Dear Library Community, October is here, and just like that the year end is in sight. While we all may have been disabused of the notion of a “return to normal,” we are finding a rhythm in our return to pre-pandemic hours at Central Library and continuing to offer a hybrid of in-person and virtual services. October brings us some fun programs and events, including a celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month on October 15 in front of the Library. Bring the family for dancing, treats, and crafts. We are also busy planning some Halloween activities for children and teens and getting settled in with our modified storytimes, including a brand new Baby & Me Storytime on Wednesday mornings. October 17-23 is National Friends of the Library Week and we are always thrilled to celebrate our Friends groups, both of which support HBPL in numerous ways. The Friends of the Library is celebrating their 50th anniversary and was recently honored by the Mayor at City Council. They continue to give money to the library system to support books, digital resources, Career Online High School, and so much more through their Used Book Sale, Gift Shop, author luncheons, and other events and fundraising. The Friends of the Children’s Library continually supports our Youth Services Division financially and programmatically. More on this week of celebrating these groups will be on our social media and website as well as theirs. If you haven’t become a member of one our Friends groups, this is the perfect month to do so! As always there is plenty to do and read at HBPL and we invite you to join us in person and virtually. Remember to check our website and social media for all of the news and up-to-date information. Have a wonderful month everyone!
