The Return of Great Powers analyzes a historic and visible shift in real time. It details the realities of this new post–post–Cold War era, the increasingly aligned Russian and Chinese governments, and the flashpoint of a new, global nuclear arms race. And it poses a question: As we consider uncertain, even terrifying, outcomes, will it be possible for the West and Russia and China to prevent a new World War?

A thriller that kept me reading way past my bedtime! Karen Hamilton’s debut novel read like one of those trashy and utterly addictive afternoon soap operas, and I couldn’t help but get caught up in the dramatic twists and turns. The narrative voice of Juliette was compelling, regardless of her unhinged actions! The various exotic locales added an element of armchair travel which made it even easier to tell myself “Just One More Chapter.” |

Another debut novel, I did not expect to like this one as much as I did. I chose it for the bright cover, and to get out of my usual reading comfort zone. The premise is a bit out there, with some of the story from the perspective of an octopus, but it worked! I was drawn into it despite my initial reluctance. The character growth was amazing, and the family dynamics were very well done. I think it would make a rather interesting movie, and it actually reminded me a bit of Finding Dory, to be honest! Which, for the record, is an awesome movie to watch with the kiddos in your life!
