July 2021 Greetings from the Library
Mark your calendars!! No doubt, with the Ontario government’s announcement of Step 2 commencing June 30th, you are excited to come back into the library. We are excited to have you back in, too! We are sorting out some last minute procedures, clarifying restrictions for libraries and what that looks like in practice in our buildings, and getting the space ready accordingly. We will begin Step 2 starting July 13 for our Port Carling branch. The space at the Port Carling branch allows for 15 users at a time in the building. Our Bala branch, which is housed in the community centre, will continue with contactless, outside delivery of library items until further notice. Our services will be a little different as we all adapt to the restrictions, but we look forward to welcoming you back in!

Dostoevsky in love : an intimate life
by Alex Christofi
"Weaves carefully chosen excerpts of the author's work with the historical context to form an illuminating and often surprising whole. The result is a novelistic life that immerses the reader in a grand vista of Dostoevsky's world. Along the way, Christofi relates the stories of the three women whose lives were so deeply intertwined with Dostoevsky's: the consumptive widow Maria; the impetuous Polina who had visions of assassinating the Tsar; and the faithful stenographer Anna, who did so much to secure his literary legacy. Reading between the lines of his fiction, Christofi reconstructs the memoir Dostoevsky might have written had life - and literary stardom - not intervened"
