February 2021
WCCLS is Now Fine-Free!
We're so happy to announce that Sherwood Public Library, along with all other Washington County libraries, no longer charges overdue fines. If you had overdue fines on your account, they have been removed.

This change has been made because WCCLS libraries are here for everyone and our mission is to serve all residents of Washington County--equally, affordably, and with easy access. Studies have shown that overdue fines most severely impact communities of color and/or with lower incomes, and don’t significantly promote the timely return of library materials. So, this change was an easy, logical, and happy choice.

Due dates and checkout times will remain the same, and we will continue to encourage timely return of materials through our automatic notice system. If you have replacement or damage charges, you will still need to arrange for payment or contact staff for options to clear your account. Check out wccls.org/finefree for more information on this change.

And for anyone who was kept from borrowing materials because of fines, welcome back!
