Starting this month we will be offering trainings for individuals and small groups (up to five people) on all the equipment in the Quad. These trainings will provide you with the skills needed to get started with the item. After you complete the training and show that you are proficient with a piece of equipment, you will be able to reserve that equipment to use on your own at times outside the Quad’s normal operating hours.
We’ve learned that many of the tools in the Quad don't lend themselves to large group instruction. So many of these tools are being taken out of the Quad Thursday featured equipment rotation. From now on, the featured equipment will alternate between the vinyl cutter and the sublimation printer. The heat press will also be available on these days. So on the vinyl cutter days, you’ll be able to make stickers or cut a design to press onto a T-shirt or tote bag. When the sublimation printer is featured, you will be able to put a photo or custom design on a coaster or mug or do a sublimation printed design on a T-shirt or bag (or other fabric item you want to provide). We will also continue to have the button maker and leather tools available on those days.
Learn how sound waves create different tones. Make new sounds with a variety of singing bowls, wooden percussion instruments, and tuning forks. Make a straw oboe and a craft stick harmonica, or experiment with a theremin, an electronic musical instrument that you play without actually touching the instrument.
The Sound of Science Idea Box will be at the Downtown Reno Library through January.
