The Library Goes to Pop Culture Con

The Washoe County Library will be attending the Reno Pop Culture Con, to be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. We will have a booth in the Kid's Lab area, and we'll be bringing our button press (so you can make a comic book inspired button) and some virtual reality equipment.

Convention guest will include actors, comedians, illustrators, and novelists. According to the Pop Con website, you can bring a book to be signed its author (for free). Authors attending will include David Anthony, Mignon Fogarty, Nathan Hale, Tupelo Hassman, Ellen Hopkins, Amalie Howard, Barry Lyga, Bourne Morris, and others.

Meet the Mug Press

The Quad has a new piece of equipment. The mug press allows us to imbed images on mugs (both ceramic and metal) and glasses. To work properly, specialized mugs coated with a layer of polymer must be used. You can buy these mugs from Amazon or Heat Press Nation. Or we can provide you with a mug (limit: one per patron).

The press is used with the sublimation printer. First the printer is used to put an image on paper. This paper is then taped onto a mug. The mug is put in the press, and as it heats the mug the ink from the paper is transferred onto (or, rather, into) the mug’s polymer coating. This allows for full-color image transfers--any color the printer can produce can be put onto the mug.

The mug press will be available whenever the sublimation printer is the featured equipment at the Quad. Come check it out on November 21.
