Summer Reading Challenge
 
Our 2021 Summer Reading Challenge is now underway. The program is open to readers of all ages, with prizes available to participants ages 0-18. The first 1,600 kids who visit the library and sign up will receive a themed bag, an age-appropriate book, a reading log/bingo card, and craft supplies. 
 
To accompany this year's Summer Reading Challenge, we’ve planned a host of exciting virtual events and interactive activities. You can watch videos of past events here, and find upcoming events on our calendar.

Backyard Tails
Thursday, June 10, 6 pm
 
Join the Nevada Department of Wildlife to learn about the critters that can be found right in your own backyard! From raptors and raccoons, to coyotes and bobcats, learn how these animals are able to survive in the concrete jungle. This interactive program will be fun for all ages.

We will share examples and quick suggestions to help you get your creativity flowing, and we'll explain how to complete your project and have it displayed in a library branch and in our virtual gallery.

On the Shelf/On the Kids' Shelf
 
Your Washoe County Library librarians are hitting the airwaves with a new radio series on KUNR!
 
On the Shelf will air each Monday at 6:42 and 8:42 during Morning Edition. Listen in for reading recommendations and catch the latest in book news. 
 
Then join us during Here & Now on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:04 for On the Kids' Shelf, a quick, two-minute segment that includes an engaging book talk, a fun activity, and some early literacy tips for families. 
 
Tune in to both on KUNR 88.7 FM, or listen online.

The Friends of Washoe County Library is a member-supported 501(c)(3) Nevada non-profit organization dedicated to advocating, fundraising, and providing support for the Washoe County Library System.
