Emergency Preparedness Resource Fair 
 
Make sure you and your family are ready for "The Really Big One" or any other disaster that might strike. Join us at Raleigh Park Elementary on Wednesday, September 21 at 5:30pm for our first ever Emergency Preparedness Resource Fair. Local emergency response agencies, citizen groups, neighborhood associations, and the American Red Cross will all be onsite to offer advice on emergency plans and kits and answer questions about how the community can coordinate to respond to emergencies and natural disasters. 
 
At 6:30pm, the American Red Cross will offer a presentation with specific steps that households can take to prepare for emergencies.

Happy Birthday, WCCLS!
 
To celebrate 40 years of cooperative library services in Washington County, WCCLS has released commemorative library cards and a library passport. Pick up a passport at West Slope Library and get it stamped at at least six other WCCLS libraries to be entered in big prize drawings in December!
 
We will be celebrating the 40th anniversary locally at a storytelling event with Alton Chung's "Tales of Thanks" on Thursday, November 10 at 6:30pm.

International Games Day
  
Mark your calendars for another fun day at the library! Saturday, November 19 is International Games Day at the library. Play board and card games all day throughout the library and enter our board game giveaway!
 
Next door at Raleigh Park Elementary at 12:00pm, we will host our 3rd annual Make & Play Game Design workshop for all ages. High quality board game components will be provided for you to design and make your own board game. Whatever you design is yours to keep! Staff and volunteers will be on hand to playtest and help guide you through the game design process.
Election 2016 Info
 
West Slope Community Library is a ballot dropsite for the 2016 election. Any Oregon resident can drop off their signed ballot at the library during open hours. Here are some important dates to keep in mind:
  • October 18: last day to register to vote
  • October 19-25: ballots mailed to voters
  • November 8: Election Day (ballots must be turned into a dropsite by 8:00pm)
Washington County voters can visit Washington County Elections for more information.
 
Multnomah County voters can visit Multnomah County Elections for more information.

Schneider will present practical advice on how to safeguard your finances and health care wishes during and after your lifetime, with up-to-date information about wills, living trusts, health care documents, issues regarding guardianship, conservatorship, and power of attorney.
Teen Read Week

Teens are invited to release books into the wild this week! Come pick up a brand new book in the teen area at the library. Post a picture of the book on social media with the tags #wcclsteenreads and #trw2016. Once you've finished reading the book, release it in a new location for someone else to find and read!

Trick-or-"Treat" at the Library

Drop in all day long and show us your costume! Take photos of yourself and share them with us on Facebook or Twitter, and get your picture taken with  staff in their costumes.
 
We'll also have: Halloween crafts, a dress-up trunk, and non-candy "treats."
Alton Chung: Tales of Thanks

Crafters Join Knitters for Mod Podge & More

This month, our monthly knitting group expands its creative mission to include Mod Podge crafting! We will provide lots of paper and art supplies for you to make your own unique artistic creation. Let your imagination run wild!
International Games Day

First Thursday Family Game Night
First Thursday of the month, 5:30-7:45pm  |  All Ages
 
Play videogames and board games at the library! Play some classic Wii games like Lego Batman and WarioWare: Smooth Moves, and try some newer board games like Catan Junior, Doodle Quest, and Bugs in the Kitchen. We can even play cards or set up our own bowling alley!

Our library book groups welcome all adults interested in engaging, respectful discussions about a diverse range of books. Each month's titles are selected annually by those who attend. The afternoon book group meets at 2:00pm and the evening book group meets at 6:30pm on the second Wednesday of the month.

Knitters Group & Craft Night
Second Monday of the month, 6:30pm  |  Teens & Adults
 
Adults and teens are welcome to drop in to learn knitting basics, to give or receive help on knitting problems, to work on knitting projects for the needy, or to simply enjoy hanging out with other knitters.
 
Knitters with expertise will provide guidance for those new to knitting and will provide troubleshooting techniques for experienced knitters who need assistance.
 
We also invite adults and teens who want to craft freely in other media to join us.

Bubbles, rhymes and songs to delight and stimulate your baby's senses, and build language skills. For babies (2-18 months) and their caregivers.
 
Preschool Storytime
Wednesdays, 1:30 - 2:00pm
Nurture a love of reading with books, rhymes, music and imaginative play. For children ages 3-6 years and their caregivers.
 
Storytime Hiatus
There will be no storytimes December 20 - January 4.
Donate to the Friends of the Library Online
 
Did you know that you can donate to the Friends of West Slope Library online? The Friends group is a non-profit that provides funding to the library for materials, furniture, and library programs.
