Kristen Thorp West Slope Library Director

Greetings! Libraries across the country have been virtually commemorating Banned Books Week this past week. This annual event celebrates our freedom to access information and to read while highlighting books that have been challenged throughout the country over the last year. When I first started working in my hometown library, almost 18 years ago, the ideals of anti-censorship and providing access to all solidified my desire to be of service by working in a public library. Below, Thea, our Adult Services Librarian, has created a list of the most frequently challenged titles over the last decade. Check the list out and maybe find your next read. Take care and happy reading, Kristen

"You don’t need more than two minutes of conversation with Pam Treece to see who she is: passionate, engaged, activist, community-minded, civic booster, advocate, reader, grandmother. Treece, Commissioner for district two in Washington County, and executive director of the Westside Economic Alliance, recently volunteered for Storytime at West Slope Community Library. No surprise – given her former career as a teacher – she was a hit.“It was great,” Treece says. “The kids were wonderful and I got kudos from the librarians for being a good storyteller.”
