RA Tips
Use NoveList personal folders ...
NoveList's folders allow you to store the information you need to answer RA questions fast.

Many NoveList users are unfamiliar with our personal folder system, which is kind of a shame because there are so many ways to use them. You can:
  • Store books for reading lists and recommendations.
  • Gather lists and articles to read when the desk is slow (ha!).
  • Save your searches to use later.
  • Share the information in your folders.
Keep on Reading,
Krista

In this email, I'm going to discuss how to select and store books, lists, and articles for The Handmaid's Tale. This classic dystopian novel premieres as a Hulu series on April 26th so it's time to get ready for the read-alike requests that are sure to roll in.

Follow along with my cheat video. It's a little long, but hopefully intelligible.

... to get ready for The Handmaid's Tale
Get Set Up
Create your account and log in. (You'll know you're logged in if you see the yellow "MY" banner on the NoveList logo)

Click on the folder icon in the upper-right-hand corner to get to your personal space.

Create a folder by clicking on NEW in the My Custom section of your folder page.  I called mine "Handmaid's Tale Recommendations".

Find Books
Search for The Handmaid's Tale and look for read-alikes in the result list. The Witchfinder's Sister shares some themes so I added it to my folder by clicking the folder icon to the right of the title.

(You can find even more recommendations by going to the title page for The Handmaid's Tale and reviewing the recommendations on the right side of  the page).

Find Lists & Articles
Now check out the Lists & Articles tab on the result list. You'll find:
~ A discussion guide for the book.
~ An author read-alike for Margaret Atwood.
     ~ More readers' advisory articles.
     ~ Related recommended reads lists.

I added several of these to my Handmaid's Tale folder as well.

Kick Back and Wait
Okay, we all know that's not an option, but you can feel confident in your ability to find these titles again -- quickly --  in order to make on-target recommendations.
