The Buena Park Library District will be closing for approximately four weeks, beginning on August 14, 2023, to complete the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) construction project that began last summer.

The almost 2-million-dollar public works project was originally approved by the Library Board of Trustees in September 2021. Due to supply chain disruptions, the work had to be completed in two phases. The first phase of the project was completed in summer of 2022. The long-awaited air handling units have finally arrived, and work will resume to complete the project. The second phase of the project will consist of the demolition and removal of the old air handlers and installation and programming of the new ones. Due to the lack of airflow in the building, the library needs to close to complete this work.

This HVAC project is being supported in part by funding provided by the State of California, administered by the California State Library through the Building Forward Infrastructure Grant. The Buena Park Library District was awarded $318,360 through the grant, which will be used toward the project.

Library Director Helen Medina expressed her appreciation to the State of California for the funds. “Our current building was constructed in 1969. While it has a solid foundation, it does require additional updates. This grant will free up funding to allow us to pay for other important projects. Our community and patrons appreciate the investment the State of California has made in our Library.”

The Buena Park Library District is tentatively scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
